Was there any danger that those cuts would have stopped the fight in those bouts?

Horrible, horrible mismatch. Ali would easily win.

I think Rocky will find his way to the inside of Ali. He will land some devastating punches.

The question is, can Ali take the punches, and deliver more damage to Marciano?

    I think Ali would.

Exactly a couple of tiny nic's against Louis that were barely noticed and I wasn't even aware he was cut against Moore so if he was that shows how little they mattered - Ali was probably worse cut against Foster then Marciano was in either of those fights and I dare bet it mentally affected him a little more too. Only fight where Marciano was in jephardy was the split nose but come on that was about the most freakish occurrence in history in terms of cuts - it's the equivalent of saying Tyson would be in danger of being DQ'd because of a bite in every fantasy fight just because one night he bit Holyfield :patsch

Yes the Simmons and Charles fights could have been stopped as both referees said. Both would have been stopped today imo.

I used to believe an Ali Marciano bout would be a mismatch. After many more years of thought I now conclude its a pickim fight. Rocky is far better than many believe defensively. Better than Frazier. He gives Ali hell.

I know a lot of folks on here will consider this blasphemy, I don't see no way in my opinion how the Rock could win this fight prime vs prime, were talking about a 6'3" 210 215 man who could move like a middleweight, and as tough as any man to ever lace them up. The Rock in my opinion would have a greater chance against a prime Joe Louis then a Prime Ali.In my opinion this would be a very easy fight for Ali.

No Marciano was in danger of being stopped in the Keene Simmons fight. His left eye was badly gashed and the referee Sharky Buonnano considered stopping the fight.
Marciano was badly cut against Johnny Shkor.
Against Walcott Marciano had 14stitches in his scalp , had another cut on the bridge of his nose ,and another in the corner of his left eye.
Marciano was cut around the left eye against Moore.
Cut around the eye against Louis and had his right eye partially closed from jabs.

Marciano was badly cut around the left eye in the first Charles fight.

Marciano's left nostril was bisected in their second fight.

Ali said Marciano was definitely better than Joe Frazier. He said it without hesitation.

Ali had his hands full with some small pressure fighters, who couldn’t have laced Marciano’s gloves up.

By all means favour Ali, but don’t imagine that this would be “easy” for him!

Equally Marciano was out boxed for many rounds by guys that could not compete with Ali for either speed ,size ,or skill.
BTW. Care to name these small pressure fighters?

There's no doubt they would be stopped today.
The referee told Marciano, in the Charles fight, that if he started bleeding again he would stop the fight. Marciano knew he had to KO Charles.

Ali was superior to Marciano in all aspects except power. Marciano had to come back to win against an old Ezzard Charles and an old Joe Walcott and these guys weren't as fast as Ali. Both Marciano, and Ali had iron chins and could endure punishment, Ali however had the size advantage, more speed, better skills, longer reach, and better foot work than Rocky Marciano. Also, Marciano bled easily, while Ali on the other hand, hardly ever got a scratch in his prime therefore this fight would really be a mismatch. Marciano would put up a great fight but eventually the difference between the two would become obvious, Ali would have to endure some punishing blows and will probably move around the ring to avoid getting cornered he would counter Marciano's hits with fast flurries and almost surely land more punches (the reach and the speed would be a deciding factor in this case) in the final rounds Ali would have the advantage as Marciano would take one last attempt to knock him out, he would be covered in blood and probably have a swollen eye (but being the warrior that he was he would keep on fighting), eventually the referee would be forced to stop the fight because Marciano would be deemed to injured to continue. Ali would run to Marciano's corner and hug him showing Marciano respect for hanging in there despite all the disadvantages that Marciano faced going into the fight and Marciano would do the same. This would have been a great fight to watch.

The first Charles fight wouldn't have been stopped - and you can't base a hypothesis on a once in a century freak injury like the split nose - if that was the case then you may aswell predict a giant fireball hitting planet earth tomorrow - also never once did the referee show any inclination to stop the first Charles fight - and again the Louis fight I can probably find the photo of Marciano's smiling face after the fight and there are a couple of nic's from memory and obviously they were completely inconsequential - and also if we judge any number of fights from the past by today's wet standard then you may aswell discount any number of fights and fighters from the record books

Ali had a unique way of throwing twisting punches that caused cuts on many of his opponents. I think that he wins a TKO.
