Callum Johnson had Beter in big trouble... I know it isn't always that easy, but in this case... it is. Rock via murder.
Man you have to have some kinda strength to twirl a 7ft 45 lb. Olympic bar like that. Pretty insane as are those pushups!
Hard to tell exactly but I personally never came across a shorter Olympic bar. That's a massive show of strength. I cant even begin to tell you how impressed I am by that alone.
Beterbiev is the better boxer. Faster hands. Quicker combos. Better form. Sharper balance. More accurate punches. Better footwork. Better boxing IQ. Rocky KO 5
I’ve also noticed you don’t comment on others posts that challenge and rebut your unfounded and sweeping generalisations such as Beterbiev being better conditioned and fighting at a faster pace than Marciano as George Crowcroft did so emphatically here. I wonder why? But yeah play the “I’m a boxing expert” card as much as you want if it allows you to puff your chest out. But training montage videos are a dime a dozen and are edited and designed to make any fighter look amazing. It doesn’t prove anything about how an actual fight would go down between two fighters.
As much as I like Beterbiev he has not done enough yet to make me think he can beat Marciano or take the punishment that Rocky can dish out. I do think Beterbiev skill makes it interesting but as others have pointed out, Snith had him badly hurt and Rocky was the type of guy that would get you out once he hurt you. I have been critical about how Rocky would perform against larger HW champs like Lewis or Foreman but against similar sized opponents I give him the edge with his power and will.
I understand your opinion, since Beterbiev does not have a lot of pro experience. To me, Beterbiev's amateur career gives him plenty of experience. In general, I am more impressed with high level amateur fights than I am with pro fights. In the amateurs the fighters don't get to pick their opponents and most of the time, both fighters are well prepared. Of course there is a learning curve for amateurs when they turn pro, probably the most obvious is there are more rounds, and the pacing is different. I have watched the Beterbiev - Johnson knockdown and it looks to me like Beterbiev was not badly hurt and doesn't even go all the way down. He caught himself with his hands/arms and got up. He was immediately fighting on even terms with Johnson after the knockdown, then Beterbiev won the 3rd round and knocked out Johnson in the 4th round. Johnson looked like a well schooled fighter and I wouldn't be surprised if he was 190-95 pounds in the ring. This content is protected
I realize that training methods have evolved. I am not even a big fan of Marciano. However, The Rock's level of conditioning was second-to-none as was his work-rate. As to the other areas you mention, they would not be a factor here...Marciano grinds him down and lays him out.
In previous threads I have posted and cited first hand accounts of Marciano's training regime for both Charles II and Walcott II. They were hardly taxing. Run a few miles, some calisthenics, a few rounds sparring.... lots of naps and some pool playing. Nothing exceptional.
