LOL Mongoose... I must say, I find that the number of threads on this board (and others) stagger me with the negativity that exists toward Marciano. He's either too small, or vulnerable to big punchers beacuse of 2 flash knockdowns (against excellent punchers) in 49 fights. Oh, and he cuts too easily. I tell you what, let's scrap the fights, just have a weigh in, see who's the heaviest and strap the belt around the heavier fighter's waist. It would be a lot less damaging to the fighters' health, and we could all save money on ticket prices and ppv fees. I said on another thread (the Ruddock-Marciano one I think) that it seems fashionable to create threads which revolve around Marciano versus any modern 230 plus pound heavyweight - insert name here - (although I'm aware that's not the case with Chuvalo), claim that they would knock Marciano out (see 2 KDs against JJW and Archie Moore) and use it as "evidence" that Marciano was, well, a bit **** really. It seems there is an agenda out there with some people to try to belittle his acheivemants at any cost. Well, the people who were there at the time know that Marciano was a GREAT FIGHTER. There were none braver, he was fearless, possessed physical strength beyond his size (I would call him a force of nature), with an excellent chin, outstand stamina particularly for one with such sn intense workrate, demoralising and sickening power, and LOVED to fight. He also had a determination and will to win that would, imo, match ANY fighter in history. But this is not enough for some people. He would not be an easy fight for anyone in heavyweight history. Often, Marciano's opponents were never the same again after fighting him. I say that Marciano was living proof of the old adage "it's not the sze of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog".
good point this - and Willard was very comparable with Chuvalo in terms of toughness and durability - I may even say Willard possibly shades it in the ability to take punishment - plus he was a heavyweight champion - Chuvalo was not even a coulda in my view - simple - if Frazier stops Chuvalo then Marciano definately does - how long Chuvalo may have lasted with Frazier without the eye injury is anybodies guess - I'd say maybe 8 or 9 rounds - so I'd probably say Marciano does it possibly quicker - Frazier really needed to build up to his big punch Marciano did not - Marciano in 7 :good
but you said mauled, remember chuvalo was a very strong man.even foreman said about his match with chuvalo hes strong but this isn't a wrestling match we are boxing.i hear up on til a few years ago chuvalo was pressing over 400 lbs on the bench
