Marciano Vs Holyfield, Who comes out on top in this shot for shot fest?

Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by TheSouthpaw, Dec 24, 2012.

  1. How can you pick someone to be ko'd who NEVER got ko'd let alone beaten? Lets be real, Holyfield gets beaten to a pulp although I will say the man's recuperative powers are absolutely incredible. There have been times when I'm sure he was going to go and he came back relentlessly, but I don't see him beating the Rock. End of story.

Holyfield didn't have the pop. A harder fight for Rock than most.

    Marciano by decision.

Marciano was stronger than Evander and hit much harder. It'd be an awesome slugfest filled with momentum sways, however Marciano is one of the few men that could match Evander's stamina and even out-do him. Evander would most likely land more punches, but Marciano's punches would be doing much more damage punch for punch and it would lead to some exciting exchanges.

I see Marciano grinding out the decision with both men being rocked.

I wouldn't even venture a guess as to who would win a fight between these two. It would have been worth the price of admission. I doubt there would be a clean KO as both had great chins so barring a stoppage on cuts it probably goes to a decision.

What I wouldn't pay to see this fight.

I think that the cruiserweight Holyfield might have done better against Marciano (just putting it out there).

I lean towards Marciano for stylistic reasons, but it is not a confident pick.

Whatever happens, a mutual respect likely develops between them.

    1) I was never asked specifically about this fight. Incidentally (and predictably), I've not seen it and don't have it.

    2) My fight collection is rather small, as I've told you before, Tony, and I'm sure there's many posters who have a collection that makes mine look pathetic in comparison. That I did say in a conversation we had.

    3) I haven't started drinking yet, so bet on this changing, but for right now: Holyfield beats Marciano at his own game. It's close and fierce, but Holyfield's counterpunching is the difference. Holyfield wins a close decision. Probably.

    4) Merry Christmas.

I say if fight held in Marcianos era which had less concern about stopping fights due to cuts and not penalising Rockys fouling then Rocky wins, but if held in modern era and its associated reffing methods and boxer safety concerns etc then Holyfield wins.

Oh I'd be interested in trading some fights, but I'm afraid I won't have anything that noone else does. I generally don't have anything that others don't have. It's worth a shot. I'll try to put a list together. Again, I have nothing that would be considered rare.

It is a laugh, though. Merry xmas and happy new year to you.

I say it should be a 15 rounder, so probably Marciano's era..
