Maybe if you are on the playground in 1st grade, you sit and trade shot for shot to see who flinches or gives first....But these guys were both skilled and not just absorbing shots...

power is the most overrated asspect of a fighters game....hence it is never about just who hits harder.....Speed, timing, reflexes, ability to not get hit flush and absorb the full power of a punch are just a few of the things that negate power....this is why guys like Tua, are not atg's....great power, but not able to land consistantly hinder you ability to maximize your power....its really not complicated.

    :deal Well said.

You got hung up on this concept in your Cuevas vs Duran thread... Who ****ing gives a **** who hit harder! There are countless examples of the guy with much more firepower getting whipped.

It's about skill, imposing your will on the other man, and many other things, all of which trump punching power.

Either guy can hurt the other. That's all the thought necessary for this one. I think on one punch, Marciano hit harder. I think Holyfield was more effective with counterpunching and combinations.

Both would do well to stick to what they do best. Holyfield would be the first do deviate from the plan. That could cost him. At some point, he'd have to be close. I still think he wins by counterpunching and combination punching, with some clinching.

holyfield is way too much here. too big and takes too good of a shot for rocky to get him out of there. one thing for sure is that no one would quit in this fight.

No way either guys quit...way to much heart and pride for that to happen....the ref would have to stop it way before either fighters quit, thats just not happening.

These are pretty much in my opinion the last 2 fighters in the world that would just give up...2 of the toughest HW's ever.

I wouldn't pick either guy by knockout i would pick Holyfield by decision, he's a tall guy for Marciano with good boxing ability his desire to fight fire with fire might wreck him in the fight he wouldn't be as smart as Walcott was in the first fight.

Rocky would not have find Evander, and that is bad news for "The Real Deal", he found and defused master boxers, and Holyfield brave as he is , is not in that category, Rocky by stoppage.

Interesting call. Is this because of his style or because he had better stamina at cruiserweight?

I like HW Holyfield over CW Holyfield just on the fact that he'll need that extra size...

The problem with this one I have is this: I feel like Marciano is underrated historically. However, I feel that Holyfield is also a bit underrated in that he can match up competitivley with any heavyweight ever head to head. Now The Rock was one tough SOB and probably a bit undervalued defensively. The problem he'd have is that Holyfield is probably at his best against someone coming right at him. Add to it the Holyfield would be the bigger man physically, and I'd give the slight edge to The Real Deal.

First, Holyfield marks the beginning of the 'roided heavyweight champions.

But Marciano is still my man, here.

Marciano has more power and Holyfield, though able to box, will be in the trenches with the Rock.

There, I think Holyfield is easier to hit and Marciano--being in his natural habitat--will bust him up and break him down.
