:smoke exactly the way I feel...Marciano went life and death with older pst prime fighters, and Holyfield at his best was a level higher than an old Charles, Moore, Louis, and Walcott. Holyfield at i up when fighters came to him, he'd counter the **** out of Marciano

    Agreed,

although this next comment will leave people screaming in outrage here, I firmly believe that a Holyfield-Marciano fight would be a mismatch.

Even though Tyson was past his prime in 1996, he was still arguably more dangerous than a peak Marciano, and what's more, Holyfield was past his best as well. Still, he thoroughly dominated that version of Tyson and managed to finish him. I can't even imagine what he'd do to Marciano at his best. Frankly, I don't even see Marciano taking a single round in that fight or lasting much longer than about the 7th or 8th.

Yeah, this is the classic forum so we have to show diplomatic generosity I suppose.

**** that...Im nt biased towards eras or fighters...I make my decisions based on facts, fighters skills, and competition. generosity my ass Marciano is a great fighter but I cant see him beating Ali, Foreman, Lewis, Holmes, or Holyfield....Too big, too strong, too skilled,

I was basically implying that we needed to cator to the rest of out audience, but I agree with you. Too much faith is placed in fighters on the sole basis of reputation. There are people here who have never even seen a photograph of Sam Langford let alone footage, yet some think that he would have beaten Wladimir Klitschko.

it certainly did not look like a mismatch when Holyfield was fighting an ancient Foreman or Holmes

Yes but he still wasn't fighting Marciano, in which case, it would have been a mismatch...

Styles make fights...you should know I understand you saw a primeMarciano going life and death with ancient Walcott, a well spent Charles, and dropped by the Ole Mongoose. Either way Holyfield Marciano is a mismatch.

I would seriously fear for Marciano's health if he fought Holyfield. All this crap about beating more hall of famers, going undefeated, etc, etc, means nothing when your in the ring with someone who can just plain kill you....Period.......

    Marciano KO11 Holyfield.

And the last thing on Holyfield's mind should be asking for a rematch.

On that note I believe they beat the same amount of hall of famers.... 4....he went undefeated in a horrible era...competition and when you beat them is most important

I agree, but unfortunately people here don't see it that way. Some will argue that both Moore and Walcott were in their perspective primes when Marciano fought them. Of course, they do this to justify them as being good wins as well as to explain why they gave him problems. Personally, I think Its all bull****, but ESB is the place where everyone love to rewrite history.
