i dont see how evander stops rock, especially when rocky got stronger in the championship rounds, and evander needed to be hospitalized for live and death battle with a 5'7 cruiserweight.

In what, his 12th pro fight? Evander destroyed Qawi in the rematch. I'm not picking Holyfield to stop Marciano, but I'm not picking Marciano to stop him either. If Rocky doesn't get Holyfield out late, do you honestly see him winning the decision? If you feel Rocky does stop him late, that's fine. I don't, so I see Holyfield taking a clear UD in an all-action fight with Marciano in control throughout the last 4 rounds.

I remember this match up from a while ago and to me its no a real competitive fight. I love Marciano, a great fighter, a Fighter's Fighter but he had too much going against him to win this fight.

    Marciano Assessment:
Marciano suffered much like Larry Holmes by fighting in one of the weaker era's in the heavyweight division. For all his heart, stamina and power he never dealt with a fighter like Holyfield. Marciano was very hittable, only 185 lbs. and he cut. He had that great will to win and the heart of a lion. He'd go on as long as his body would let him.

    Holyfield Assessment:
We're not talking about the skinny Holyfield who 11 fights in struggled with Dwight Qawi. This is the Holyfield from 1988-1992 who destroyed Qawi in a rematch, cleaned out cruiserweight, and fought one of the greatest fights ever with Riddick Bowe. He was a complete fighter. Could box, bang, crisp combination puncher, great stamina, chin, and a heart the size of an elephant. Also in this fight he'd have the edge in handspeed and Holyfield was one of the best counterpunchers to win the heavyweight title.

    Winner and why:
Holyfield UD or stoppage on cuts, why you ask??

Also Marciano was a fighter that depended on his strength and power to win.

It would be competitive as long as it lasted. But no one took a prime Holyfield's heart. Holyfield fought far stronger fighters and harder hitters than Marciano and won....guys like Foreman, Bowe, Tyson, etc.

All of Marcianos oppontants were bigger than he was and many were stronger, it's nothing new. You saying this is the first time he fought someone stronger than him is wrong, guys like Rex Layne were big strong and skilled fighters.

Marciano also didn't cut that easily like you and many claim, his defense also was not poor despite the general opinion he was some defenseless fighter. If his defense was that poor and got hit that often he wouldn't of been 49-0, someone would of got him out of there. You said Marciano never fought a guy like Holyfield, maybe true but who did Holyfield fight with the limitless stamina, chin, toughness, power that Marciano had? The closest thing is a past his best Tyson who was beating Evander before tiring and Qawi at Crusier. Stylewise also Bert Cooper who almost had Holyfield out of there.

holyfield loved to brawl. this is going to cost him against marciano, because he cannot slug it out with marciano and come out alive.

The two advantages Charles & Walcott had over Holyfield is defense. Both were better defensivley, but Marciano eventually got to both of them. Holyfield, while maybe a better boxer movement wise and offensively, He is relativly easy to hit. And then would engage in a slugfest, He cannot win this type of fight against A prime Marciano.

Holyfield could be an inconsistent performer and so could Marciano. I also think Holyfield might fight Rocky’s type of fight instead of easily out boxing Marciano. Either man could, but I will take Holy via Decision or late round TKO as my best guess.

I thought Rocky was always as well conditioned as humanly possible. The only exception that I can think of, off the top of my head, is whan he dominated Don Cockell, while looking sloppy.

Marciano was tireing of fighting by this stage of his career and knew that Don was not a serious threat to him. It has been recorded that Rocky said he was unmotivated to put in his usual hellish training. Against a live threat like Holyfield, you can bet that Marciano would be in incredible condition.

I think this would be an awesome match-up. Two all time greats with the hearts of lions. Holy might be able to do it over 12, but I would bet on Rocky. Holy would need to box, and if he was drawn into a brawl (as he often was) he would be fighting Rocky's fight. Over 15, I would think Rocky would be even surer of victory. But an incredible match to imagine!

i have to laugh at people thinkin holyfield could stop marciano late. marciano is the best championship round fighter of all time, he can throw nearly 100 power punches in round 15 after 14 gruelling rounds. how is ANYONE going to stop that kind of fighter late in the fight? LOL

you better stop marciano early, cause no way anyone could stop him late!

Yep, that´s what i wondered too.

Can´t see Holyfield stopping Marciano if Holy is at his absolute best and boxes he has a chance of outboxing the rock but in every other case Marciano takes it.

Yeah, how in the world can anyone think Holyfield would be able to outlast and wear down Marciano? I can't think of ANYONE that would stop Marciano late.

I can't see how any1 can ever think holy would be knocked out, he took clean bombs from tyson early on, he ate formans jab all day, he got bashed by lewis but kept coming! If holyfield boxed he would win easy in my opinion and even if he slugged marciano is no stronger than bowe(lmao no way) punched harder but holy can take absolutely any fighter in historys best punch and keep going like nothing happened! I'm not pro holy or some holy lover supporter but I tell it like I see it and Holyfield was as tough if not tougher(because hes actaully been tested) than rocky and as strong if not stronger. ROcky had the power but so did all of Holyfields top oponents(tyson had vicious 1punch power and much better combinations/speed than rocky, foreman had much more clubbing and constant pressure power punching than rocky and holy survived). Basically what I'm saying is Holy can box marciano and brawl in spurts n beat him, Holy can take watever any fighter in history can dish out and keep going and he can box on the outside quite well. Holyfield big ud like 118-109
