Marciano vs Johansson?

This fight was due to be made had Ingemar won the 2nd patterson fight...it never materialised but if a 36 year old marciano who hadn't fought in nearly five years came out of retirement to fight a 27 year old ingo, what do you think would be the result?

Prime for prime Rocky all day long but under the above circumstances, could 'the rock' (without a warm up fight first) show us some of the old magic?

 

Under these circumstances,the ageing Marciano gets stopped.

 

Very hard to predict, because it would turn on how much Marciano could get back.

I suspect that we have the answer in his decision not to make a comeback.

 

Marciano showed he could get back into fighting shape at 45 for the Ali computer fight. He still had the power as he supposedly dropped Ali with a body shot. He only quit boxing because he hated his manager and his brutal training regime began to take its toll.

For a one of fight he would of trained harder than he ever had and entered the ring with a -lose is not an option mindset.

Nearly five years is a long time to come back and go straight into a tittle fight the chances are he may well of lost . Although how well the champ would of trained for this bout I am not convinced about giving a fit trained and ready Marciano at shot even after the long lay off

 

Marciano would have been KO'd.
That's why he aborted the idea. He trained down to fighting shape but he knew he could never regain what he once had, so he left it alone.

Johansson would have been motivated for a Marciano fight, and he would have KO'd Rocky, no doubt.

 

Yeah getting down to fighting weight is one thing but having the tools still intact is another. As for johansson being totally motivated I am never really convinced by him in any way to be honest but I may well be letting my view of him as a lucky bloke with a big punch that was lucky he fought floyd for the tittle cloud my judgement

 

Well, he got 'lucky' the year earlier against unbeaten #1 contender Eddie Machen too.

Johansson was good, very dangerous, for a couple of years, but he wasn't the most disciplined fighter and probably not mentally equipped to be a long-term champion, inevitably his lifestyle caught up with him. Maybe Patterson got 'lucky' there.

 

How about the first one ?

 

Glad it didn't happen. Rocky was a great champion in his day. His style of fighting never has bided well for older fighters and he was wise to get out of boxing when he did. Now if he and Johansson had tangled during the early 1950's Rocky would have flattened him but it would have been "iffy" by 1960.

 

Marciano was training behind closed doors in anticipation of fighting Ingo in 1959...he was doing roadwork...changed his eating habits...and was working out in Florida. The Rock was slated to receive $1.4 million for the comeback fight...and Lou Duva was going to work his corner...but Marciano didn't have the old zeal he once had...and the talk of a comeback was halted...Marciano wins by a TKO over Ingo...

 

It all depends on how much Marciano lost but I think Ingo would be an easy fight for him...Winning meant more than money for Marciano and if he did not feel like he had it to win and looked good he would not fight for money...thing is nobody comes back for one fight so if he beat Ingo there would be others waiting and did Rocky have it in him after those years off living soft...I guess he had second thought about beginning a new career with a comeback...He should stop Ingo even a bit off but does he keep his undefeated record with each new million dollar fight that would come up 2x a year
