The difference between then and now is that fighters were less willing to clinch, and their better stamina prevented them from having to tie up because they would rather fight out of the clinches instead of being leaned on and bullied onto the ropes. Walcott tried to clinch Joe Louis, but found out that Louis wouldn't have any of it, and was forced to fight instead of clinch and was knocked out as a consequence. When a fighter clinches he is open for a punch. You just have to have the will and the stamina to throw it and judging by film I've seen of Marciano who throws non stop punches with everything on them for 15 rounds, I doubt Peter's clinching will be entirely too effective. I think it's better to fight in a fight than wrestle. Wrestlin don't score no points.
Wlad clinches people that don't have the stamina to get out of the clinch or are unwilling or afraid to engage. Being a good clincher is not what I would call an admirable quality in a game where the object is to hit and not get hit. While clinching at times is necessary, it doesn't score any points, and it leaves you open for punches. I don't know though, I'm guessing a lot of people enjoy watching Ruiz.
You do realize that Carnera has a longer reach and is bigger and probably stronger than Wlad, right? Wlad would not have a size advantage over Carnera.
haha i guess so, unless there is huge demand for a peter vs marciano simulation like ali vs marciano, but i highely doubt it so il guess we will never no:good
I'm the idiot? Let's think this through a little before we start name calling. If I'm the smaller figher, as 100% of Wladimir's opponents are, would it not be wise to fight on the inside? So, let me ask you this, smart guy, how can you fight someone when you're clinching? Wait........don't answer.
No. Joe was stalking him and Primo looked scared to death. Joe knew he was going to catch him sooner or later. His jab is not better than Vlad. Vlad would KO his ass with the same rounds as Joe. Now Joe vs Vlad would have been much different. Marciano vs Vlad....pressure might get to Vlad and Marciano would get a KO by Vlad being exausted. Marciano vs Peter. Marciano by vicious KO after getting tired of getting hit behind the head. Toney beat Peter the first time, but did not get the nod and Toney was a former MW. Marciano is another story being a CW with HW power and pressure.
How else do you win in a fight with a man who has a significant height and reach advantage rather than stalking? And Klitschko looked equally scared to death against Sam Peter, and fought that way against Ibriganov. Klitschko has never face a fighter with a size advantage and at 6'6'' 250-265 with an 85'' reach advantage and a very similiar if not EXACT style, Klitschko would have his hands full and probably get knocked out. This is especially true considering Klitschko's entire game plan revolves around establishing distance. He has not shown he is capable of bending at the waste. Primo on the other hand has.
so would bet on wlad to get knocked out vs. the italian circus fighter carnera? atsch why don't you join rummy's prediction league and prove your boxing knowledge!
No disrespect and I see where you going, but Primo was not a very good figher. He has poor defence and no real balance. His jab was okay for that time, but he pawed a lot. Vlad is no hero of mine, but his jab is very good, quicker, much more intelligent. It is a bit of a stretch to compare them. I thought the thread was about Marciano vs Vlad? I still believe Marciano could pull it off with what I mentioned on my previous post.
I agree that I'm doing a bit of reaching, but I think the way Louis beat Carnera is a very good blueprint on how to beat Wlad. While it's true that Wlad may be better than Carnera, they both share similiar stances and look almost identical on film. I think that Haye will repeat what Louis did and knock Klitschko out. But yeah.......you're right, the thread was about Marciano. I think that Marciano's style would cause Wlad major problems as Wlad would constantly have to give up his height to reach Marciano, and that would put him in position for violent counters. Wlad might be quick, but only for a big man.
Body work, head movement, cut off the ring, force him to fight at your height, and clinching when needed. I meant Joe was like a lion about to pounce on a deer. Primo looked like he wanted to go home and watch cable, but cable was not invented yet. There was another fighter that starched him worse and I can't remember his name who was much smaller like Joe.
haha there fitness wasnt much better, seriously look at most of there diets and training, fighters then didnt really know how to use the clinch effectively like peter, he grabs both arms inward, and then attacks giving his opponenets no movement at all to work, i doubt walcott can to perform the same technqiue effectively, you may be able to throw hundreds of punchs of real power but if your opponenet wont let you get them off, then it will only work as a disadvantage, and give peter oppertunitys, I agree it is better to fight than wrsetle but thats peters tactic, and he would be controlling the rhythem of the fight which does earn you points, look Peter would smother all of marcianos work and control the rounds i see peter being controling ,and effective with a peter UD
CHOP, a punch changes everything. I don't know how hard Marciano punched, but according to a lot of historians, he was a banger. Peter to me is not that impressive and losing to Toney the first time and yes Peter got the nod, but come on now. Marciano would punch threw clinches and and move forward with his aggressive style. Peter would eventually get tired and fold. Answering the first sentence I posted is that Marciano would catch Peter solidly and Peter would stop all of his smothering. I am not a big Marcaino fan, but I respected him for being only 185 fighting big and all heavyweights they put in front of him. Peter by no means is a big heavyweight. He is a overweight fighter.
