That was his M.O post 1953 when Goldman changed up Marciano's style. Prior to 1954, Marciano did not throw anywhere near the amount of punches. He was more of a slugger, a stalker. He changed his style into a volume punching swarmer by the first Charles fight. Watch the films. The Lastarza rematch was the beginning of the transition. Goldman mentions this.

So whose your new stylistic nightmare to beat W Klitschko? Any new Arreola's?

We disagree he reduced Layne to a walking target by a series of shots over several rounds.
Moore called him a grinder I'm content to agree with him.
Look at the ****ell fight, look at the Lastarza,
fights, look at the Charles fights ,[this is a guy that

Walcott took out with one shot,] look at how many shots he had to land on Moore to finally stop him .A guy

    that Patterson
took out with one left hook.

Layne was put to sleep in the fetal position with one devastating right hand. Nothing more nothing less

Oh I forgot you said Jennings is the first "athletic" heavyweight wlad ever faced. Maybe you'll finally give klitschko credit when he makes easy work of Jennings

Layne was put to sleep after absorbing a gradual beat down. BTW Marciano did not knock out his teeth, he damaged his bridgework.

    ps .FOETAL

"Trying to knock the challenger out with one punch, the 29-year-old Marciano was over-eager and awkward. He lunged, butted, hit below the belt, on the break and after the bell. Once, he swung so wildly that he missed and slipped clumsily to the canvas. Outboxing the champion and avoiding his blows, LaStarza managed to win four of the first six rounds. In the seventh, Marciano changed his tactics, started aiming at LaStarza's body as well as his head in an attempt to wear the challenger down. He succeeded"

Against Lastarza, 30 years old champion Marciano was 4 fights away from retirement he wasn't improving he was as finished a product as he would get.
Marciano had two left feet his whole career he missed punches by feet and sometimes fell over after missing, lets not re-invent him as a crafty stalker.

The film and the fight report support my opinion.A gradual beat down that reduced the, always suspect in defence Layne to a sitting target.Impressive finish, but the real work had been done earlier.
