I just now watched this fight on ESPN Classic. Fantastic action all the way through until Marciano finally won by KO at 1:19 of the 9th round. I scored the previous rounds 6-2 for Marciano, 77-71 points, giving Moore the 2nd (when he scored a flash knockdown and had his best round overall) and the 7th. Of note, Boxrec states Marciano scored 5 knockdowns himself, but really it was 4 (two in the 6th, one each in 8th and 9th) while the referee ruled another one a slip. Marciano showed good head and upper body movement (except in the 2nd after the knockdown), was generally more active, and had BY FAR the heavier power ("with both hands" as Moore said afterwards), but he missed with dozens of big lunging punches, and considering Moore's more refined technique, I would have thought Moore would have more success on the counterpunch. But in the end, Marciano's power won the fight, and even if knockdowns back then were not counted as fast as referees could possibly count, no way was Moore going to get up in time after the final knockdown, although he recuperated well enough for the post fight interview. Great fight, great final fight for Marciano.
