Dont know if this has been done but I seem to recall a BBB article about, I dont know, 30 years ago, picking herr Max over the Rock. I discussed it with a friend and we both concluded BBB's writer had been smoking weed on the job. This writer's opinion, the Rock would obliterate Max with his non stop, never give your opponent a moment to rest, attack. More than one famous opponent has said the Rock was the hardest punching opponent they had ever faced, including Joe Louis
Max is not sharp shoot countering his way out of this one, and although he could hit, he didn't hit hard enough to dent Marciano for more than a moment. A common explanation for Schmeling's knockout of Louis is that Joe was in lousy shape. There's no chance of Marciano ever being in less than top condition though. The left side of Max's body would be open to Rocky's right, and I think Schmeling would get broken down with that shot as the match progressed.
People always find excuses when their hero loses. We had this thread more than once, seach function might help. Max would pose problems for Rocky, especially in the first half of the fight. Perhaps he even scores a knockdown. But in the end Marciano´s output and power would just be too much, he would overwhelm a game Schmeling and stop him between 11 and 15. Schmeling even might be up at that point.
Max's right hand woul;d score problems for Rocky early on. Maybe scoring one or two knockdowns. Marciano's increasing pressure would enable him to knock Schmelling out by the time the ninth was over though.
Good fight....but The Rock's high work rate and non stop pressure would be too much for Max...not to mention the "Suzie Q"...Marciano by KO...
And you probably recall me making posts extrapolating that an always focused Max may have always had the Bomber's number in a first time, peak for peak, H2H matchup. A cautious Schmeling might even go the distance, but if so, he wouldn't have the work rate to be leading at the final bell, not against a fully evolved Marciano (who only achieved that level of development after mastering the hook against Louis and Matthews).
I am going to go ahead and make Rocky Marciano a very heavy favorite. Schmeling was a good boxer with a decent punch, but he was not as crafty, skilled or durable as Joe Walcott or Ezzard Charles. In fact, I'm not even sure how he'd handle a man of Marciano's style given that I can't think of anyone who he's faced of Rocky's description. Rocky's high work rate, bobbing, weaving, two fisted attack and immense power would eventually lead to a mid round KO or stoppage.
Anyone who puts serious relentless fast nonstop two-fisted pressure on Schmeling will stop him unless they give Max space and time to sharp-shoot that vicious right. Marciano would not do that. Like folks said, even if he happened to catch Rocky, Marciano would take it and fire right back, even if Rock happened to get dropped for a flash knockdown. If Schmeling thought Max Baer was strong, he hasn't seen anything yet. I think Marciano would break him down even faster than Baer did because Marciano kept a better pace than Baer and was more relentless with his footwork.
As much as I hate to say it, this is not an unrealistic possibility. Once Joe Louis figured him out, he destroyed him in one round. Max Baer who was far more crude than Marciano overcame his skills and stopped him. Marciano was a combination slugger swarmer type fighter who had a solid chin, huge power and the ability to hurt you with both hands. That's a nasty cocktail for someone like Schmeling in my opinion.
Marciano also stopped Jersey Joe Walcott in a round, but before that he had the war of a lifetime against him.
