Marciano Vs Tyson.... Who would have triumphed

I can see the rationale that if Marciano survives the early storm his chances increase dramatically, problem is he has to absorb that early storm without being stopped or badly cut. The premise that Tyson will magically fall apart in the later rounds is based on him not scoring many stoppages late.Conversely Marciano pulled the fat from the fire late in several fights.It never seems to occur to those favouring Rocky ,that Tyson' s early onslaught was so overwhelming that it resulted in early kos ! Marciano was more of an attrition puncher imo ,he usually ground down his opponents with an incessant bombardment, consequently after shipping such punishment several men who faced him were never the same again.Walcott, Layne Lastarza,Charles, were significantly diminished after one turn in the barrel with Rocky.A past peak Tyson still had the power to drop big quality heavyweights like Ruddock and Douglas late.Anyone who thinks Tyson suddenly gets turned into a pumpkin at midnight is reaching imo.[/QUOTE]

Fair post, and one that I broadly agree with. Prime Tyson asks a lot of awkward questions of Marciano that I don't think he has answers for. I'm just trying to work out how Marciano can win here, barring catching Mike with something huge early on. But even mauling with Tyson is problematic due to the weight advantage.

I do however feel that post prison Tyson was a shell of himself. His speed was largely gone, his accuracy and timing were off, his peekaboo was more for show (when he bothered) than effect and he was also damaged goods mentally. He relied on power mostly and fair enough, that he still had in spadefuls. That version I do favour Rocky over, and have argued thus.

 

It's clear to see there's alts on here but who cares, if folk are sad enough to set up another account then fair play to them although "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" springs to mind........

The smart money would be on Tyson no doubt but if Marciano could avoid the onslaught and stay on Tyson's chest and frustrate him then I could see him wearing him down in the latter rounds. Marciano would certainly be heavier and stronger if he was around nowadays, he would have to be or he wouldn't even be a HW.

Tyson won many fights through intimidation before the fight even started. Seldon, Pinklon,
Bonecrusher lost before the bell even sounded. I don't think Marciano would be intimidated.
Still, a prime, pre Tokyo Tyson wins by TKO.

But the ear biting, post-Tokyo Tyson? The one that lost his mojo entirely? The one that went life and death
with Franz Botha (before the white Rhino got too cheeky)? That Tyson would at least be
possible for Rocky to wear down. We all know, or should know, that Tyson was very mentally
fragile. If he couldn't KO Marciano quickly, and started getting hit very hard, he might start
biting Marciano, but more likely on the nose than the ears.
