All depends on whether or not Rocky can catch up with Gene late on. Tunney builds up a sizeable lead but can he keep Marciano off him for fifteen ?

Put 30 pounds on Greb and you got Rocky. Tunney isn't winning.

    Interesting pick by Arnold
Considering his history with Rocky and how fighters (everyone, really) build up their own experiences.

Makes me tend to agree with him.

This is one of the better historical fantasy-land match ups.

Put 30 pounds on greb and you got a much slower guy so it is not good to beat tunney

I recall hearing this way back on the radio,...Max Schmeling also picked Tunney over Marciano,....saying that he'd "cut him around ze eyes"...
I recall also that Tunney, when he heard that he lost this fictional bout, expressed disgust...

    Agreed.

Greb was "Ali-like" before Ali was Ali-like, i.e., Marciano would have trouble catching him well, imo. Coupled with experience, toughness (one doesn't just simply fight Greb five times, let alone get the best of him), speed, etc., I see Greb winning a decision. He would've done what Charles and Walcott should've done if they weren't so "old" and, in Walcott's case, ****y.

Marciano cracks Tunney's ribs, breaks his jaw, busts his eye sockets, takes his wife, and puts his kids in to foster care.

Tunney out boxes and out thinks Marciano all the way to a convincing decision.

I have more high regard for Gene Tunney today than I ever did...in the past, I agreed with the computer that Marciano would have beatn him, and probably by decision, with no knockdowns, as Tunney had a better chin than JJW, Charles and Moore...for that matter a better chin than any of Rocky's opponents. I now think that Tunney at his best,...and we never really saw him at his very best because he retired before that point...would have survived the best of the Rock's fury and would have outboxed and outsped him over 15.
