Marciano's biggest strenght as a boxer was not his punching power. His strenght was his good stamina and strong fighting spirit. He wore his opponents out with sustained beating and not with one punch. Marciano was like a duracell bunny that kept on going and going because of it's endurance. He punches hard like all heavyweight boxers do, but he's not the strongest puncher. Not even in TOP20.
I dont know of many HW fighters who chip the bones of many fighters they face (ask LaStarza) he may of not had the one punch KO power of some of his compatriots but the man had punching power in abundance, when I think of 'leverage' I think of Rocky the mans power was delivered from the legs and is in no way underrated, ask Muhammad Ali
What hapened when Marciano hit Rex Layne with one punch.I dont think his power is overrated. He had one punch KO power.
No I don't think it is. Pictures and stories from fighters that had fought him back this up I reckon. And look at LaStarza's face after their fight.....it was a complete mess.
Only if people are calling him the hardest head to head puncher of all time, which I don't think anyone does.
Marciano could knock most fighters out with one punch if he landed right. He wasn't the most accurate puncher though and would rather wear down most of his elusive foes with a consistent body beating. One of the most hardest hitting men of his size certainly. Every punch of his did damage, and he ruined many of his opponents. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
No, it is not overrated. Marciano was a special kind of fighter, he started out as a 1 punch KO fighter, but mid title reign changed his style into more of an overwhelming kind of fighter who threw more punches, but did not go for just 1 punch to end the night.
For his size, yes. This i won't deny, but there's been many heavyweights who hit harder. Many Rocky fans think he's hardest puncher ever, which is ridiculous.
He wore Matthews down with a sustained 2-round beating. I saw it. It was like a heavyweight Juan Diaz, the accumulation of punches, really.
