Just watched the Ezzard Charles fight. Laughing when people think that Rocky could compete with today s best. He was a tough son of a gun but really?..... Tyson takes him in 1 round. I like the myth but reality is important. 5:10 185? Versus the guys today? Although I liked the fight----showed me how much athletes have evolved over the the decades. And will do so
Do not want to start the Rocky Project..... Charles looked more impressive to me. Great fight. Both men----true warriors. No more discussion please. I should not have started it.....sorry
There’s nothing of substance I can add that hasn’t been said on this forum in the last 15 years or so. Although I will say that I don’t think a 185 lb Marciano would be the man today because, simply put, I seriously doubt he’d weigh 185 lbs fighting at heavyweight. He wouldn’t have to deal with the speed of 180-190 lbrs. His competition would be made up of slow 240 lbrs that throw 30 punches per round and has half way through a fight.
At 185 lbs? I’m not sure. I wouldn’t favor it. Fury is incredibly weak physically for a man of his size. He does weight training consistently and couldn’t deadlift 550 lbs with proper form. I’d bet money he can’t do 20 dead hang pull ups on any given day. If Marciano can get inside his reach then I think he’d put his lights out. Rocky certainly has the power to do it. At worst for Marciano it would be a decision loss on favor of Fury.
Stop it. Every athlete gets better. Watch the film. In 20 years the boys will be bigger and stronger. The guys from the 50s were tough and talented,,,, but progress happens....
