Holyfield is 6' 2" ,again he has the height to carry the extra weight.

They were naturally bigger men that Rocky. Tyson weighed more than Marciano when he was 16! Tua' s debut at 20 was at 201lbs.

Yeah, he was 4'7" and wore lifts in his boxing shoes, and false tips to his fingers.

Exactly what sort of frame do you need, before you would be allowed to add muscle under modern training principles?

If they can't do anything whatsoever for Marciano, then you have to question their value for the modern juggernauts!

It would be intresting to see how heavy some shorter heavyweights would have been had they came up in an earlier era.

    Same dimensions different era training.

I am not having it both ways.

Both guys were taller and longer than Marciano. They carried the weight better. But more to the point, they had completely different styles. You are making a false equivalency.

When I spoke to Peter he told me Marciano walked around at 215 pounds.

I boxed at Marcianos cousins gym in Brockton they told me the same thing

    Unbelievable!!!!

    Earlier I wrote:

"Without bringing up Norris it's going round in circles because Tua and Tyson just got fatter and fatter.

"They're naturally bigger" etc. Cry the muscle fans.

But Norris dropped the artificial weight didn't he? Then he put it all back on then he took it all off again. He's the key to all this nonsense."

And then as predicted along comes McVey with....

:yep you could set your watch by it!!

    Truth is,

For whatever reason being bigger and making one's self as big as possible became the way to go in the gyms. Nothing wrong with that.
Training and diet practice changed forever years ago. So don't go pretending any heavyweight is his natural size anymore. Training and dietary practice has put a fighters optimum weight higher for each individual than it used to be. Therefore since the mid 1980s debut weights have been higher than they would be too.

Confused by the underlying premise in some of these comments that guys like Tyson trained to be as big as possible. You'd think Tyson just lifted weights, hit heavybags and drank protein shakes all day.

Tyson did a ton of cardio and sparring, and high-rep weightlifting. Not the advanced, super mass-building routine that some of you guys seem to assume.

It's not just Tyson it's everyone. Big fighters blessed with natural super size wanting to be even bigger. It's been going on for years. Proberbly since Mike Spinks moved up. But it's gym culture in general.
