Tyson hardly lifted weights at all early doors apart from to take his weight DOWN.

His training methods were notoriously old school.

Marciano was also 5"11 but he never stood up strait in the ring or outside....Marciano did much cardio to keep his weight low, I think they know a lot more today about keeping on muscle and cardio fitness but I have seen people totally change there body with muscle and weigh more and look slim, its all where you put the muscle....who would ever think 5'9 James Toney could weigh 235 but stopped Holyfield and years before Holyfield beat the 7" ft Valuev

I believe he did the wall pullies like Jack Dempsey but Tyson fought in the under 200lb weight class in the amateurs and lost to Tillman for the Olympic right

Both guys, when they were down a weight class (somewhere that Byrd never achieved anything in the pro ranks) also had a weight limit to make which is a game of water management and diuretics. Big ****ing deal. At 6 2 1/2 with a 76" reach, he had a broader canvas to hold additional weight. And all he achieved at the next level was a Tunney-esque game of Capture the Flag, not becoming a dominating force in the division's history.

Now, let's get back to how Orlin Norris was as good a heavyweight as he was a cruiserweight. Please, let's continue that conversation.

with hindsight the best heavyweights during the Tyson era were Tyson, Tucker, Douglas right? Well I think Norris deserved to be among them but did not get the breaks. He was the NABF champ and that title produced more competative fights than many of the ranked guys were getting whom Tyson was actually defending against.

Norris made the ring magazine annual ratings two years running at heavyweight. Just as many years as belt holders like Tony Tubbs and Michael Dokes featured. He did not have a belt but was as good as Dokes, Douglas, Tucker. He beat Ferguson who got a shot at Bowe too.

In fact Norris beat the same guys Buster Douglas did. Page and McCall. Douglas might have beat Tyson but Norris beat Tucker who beat Douglas.

Being one of three belt holders at cruiser is the same as being one of the best three heavyweights in the world. I think with hindsight Norris proberbly was. Getting robbed by Tucker in 1991 made him #3 in my book.

The guy was the same size as Tyson and Tua only he put on or took off 30lb whenever it suited him.

Whether they can do anything whatsoever was not the original question ,that was could Marciano be another Tyson or Tua ?
It's very strange how difficult that is for some to address, even to the point of one poster totally ignoring it and filling all his posts with dissertations on Orlin Norris who is not mentioned in the thread's title.:huh
In effect it boils down to, I can't answer the question to fit my agenda, so I'll ignore it and answer a question of my own . "Curioser and curioser said Alice."

In his 20 years old pro debut Tua scaled 201lbs.
More than Marciano ever weighed in a pro ring.
Tyson weighed more than Marciano when he was a sixteen years old teenager.

Norris is not the subject of the thread which is, could Marciano emulate Tyson and Tua.You are doing yourself no favours by continuing this absurd ignoring of the subject of the thread, it just makes you look dull-witted.

Norris is relevant to the subject. You cannot deny it.

I'm not convinced Orlin Norris actually weighed 211 when he fought Page or 213 when he fought Tucker.

Marciano was big enough at 186 pounds anyway. But of course it's absurd to say he couldn't have carried some extra weight, 10 or 20 pounds, muscle and/or body fat.

    Marciano's musculature looked relatively undeveloped.
Some people seem to be arguing it was his "frame" but it looks like he could easily have put on some muscle weight too.
Even an inch or two on the arm, and 3-4 inches around the chest/back would equate to several pounds. I doubt it would slow him down much.

    But it's not necessary.

I do deny it categorically , and I also say you haven't made one post on this thread that ADDRESSES THE TITLE OF THE THREAD.

Oscar Bonavena was 5'10 heavyweight who I believe had a "big frame".
He was wide as a house.
