    You missed my point.

We can judge the bone structure vertically between Shaquille Oneal and Ricardo Lozez, right?

But we can not judge width or depth? Huh?

For one thing, bone mass gains can continue as late as the mid 30s in healthy men, and is highly effected by life long nutrition intake. Your skeleton is not a fixed mass until middle age.

So to answer your question..absolutely yes! Gains in bulk not only create an illusion of denser bones but can create an actual increase in bone density.

So concluding Rocky has a ceiling based on an approximation of his skeleton's mass is a dead end to begin with. And thats assuming people are guessing his bone's mass correctly via picture contrast to men 50 pounds heavier who are obviously carrying far more muscle mass.

If he had put on the weight the Rockistas say he could have, he would have been.

220lbs Rocky would not have been a contender let alone a champ!

He would almost certainly be a world champion, just not in the HW division.

I also believe if Mike Tyson came around again there's a good chance he would have started off in the CW division.

He'd certainly have to put it on over a substancial period of time.

What division would he have been a world champion in, then?

CW or LHW, whichever he would feel most comfortable at.

You look at Tyson now, I'm guessing hes a little over 200lb. If he was a natural heavy in his prime weighing 220lb I would've thought he be over 220lb now, say 240lb maybe in retirement..Marciano trained down to 190. If Tyson hadn't of bulked up there would be no natural size difference worth talking about. Imo Tyson was on steroids from a very early age

How dare you say that, I await the tales of a 500lb 8 year old Tyson entering the gym for the first time.....

You look at Tyson now and hes smaller than he was in his early 20's weight wise. I've never ever seen or heard of that before, a fighter at heavy smaller in retirement. Its telling me he wasn't natural at 220lb. Hes closer to Marcianos natural size than people think

I love the latter day keyboard trainers who claim to know more than Charlie Goldman. If Rock could have been an effective 220 pound destroyer, Goldman would have seen fit to him becoming so. End of story.

Never met Marciano but met Tyson and Tua, both when they were in or very close to their prime. These were not normal, or even close to normally dimensioned folks. Judging by the many pics of Marciano, he was no where close to them in stature. Sorry. You are not going to convince me otherwise. In a legacy sense, he was a greater fighter than Tua... and right up there with Tyson. That should be enough.

    Just to play devils advocate
Goldman and co. never remotely envisioned modern day cutting, rehydrating, bulk building and the like. They were dinosaurs as to what could be achieved weight and build wise decades later - case in point Evander Holyfield.

It's redundant to compare their knowledge and beliefs against the here and now and you of all people know this.

Bit of a strawman, nobody is saying that. There was no need for Marciano to be a 220 pound destroyer in his day. There was no cruiser division and his regular weight was on the lower end of average against his peers. And the few instances he fought exceptionally heavier maulers, he came in at 190 or slighty over.

I dont know more than Goldman, but I know like any trainer, they would condition Marciano with the best contemporary methods in a manner that would produce the best results.

There is nothing magical about Marciano's 184 to 187 weight. It is just what they decided worked best against regular opposition in the 185 to 200 range.

If Marciano fought more Big Bill, Simmons, and Shkor types..200 to 230 pound physical opponents on the regular, he would have came in over 190 more frequently.

If you told Goldman, Rocky would be facing 6'4" to 6'8" 230 to 250 pound men on average, i can gurantee he wouldnt have responded with well "187 is the magic number for my boy."

That would see him smaller, not bigger.
