I agree. Turns pro at 168, establishes himself at 175, and eventually ventures north and fights as an undersized cruiserweight when he’s just past the peak of his career. Maybe he eventually visits heavy ala Huck at that point or maybe he finds a better way to earn a living.

I think he just lies about his height, says he's 6'2 and has a 78 inch reach. Everyone would say "he's kinda small for a modern heavyweight but he's still about the same as Ali !"

You combine it with other things we know about Rocky. But hassling your fighter over some bananas that he has to hide under his pillow? That’s pretty telling.

Look at a picture of Rocky. Compared to the body shapes of the majority of SHWs, he looks meek. When’s the last time we seen a HW look anything but the opposite of meek?

It’s somewhat of a rare treat for modern fans to see a HW come into a fight looking trim these days.

.... or he accuses everyone else of wearing platforms.
The modern fans will inevitably say: "Rumours that he's only 5'10 are stupid. If he was 5'10 he wouldn't even be able to reach a super-heavyweight's chin".
Therefore he must be 6'2, possibly 6'4.

These days, a trim SHW has to beat 20 pudgy fighters to earn a mega fight with the other good trim SHW. No?

That sounds familiar..like how Holyfield grew 2.5 inches of height in his mid 20s, and claims to have the same reach as Foreman and Bowe when he clearly didn't. But he got that "big frame"

True, and I think Mike Tyson even developed 7 inches extra reach for the Lennox Lewis fight !
His managers went to great pains in his prime years to prove him was 5'11 3/4 ..... just a smidge under 6 foot !
But nowadays, a flat 5'10 is the accepted "real" prime height.

Rocky Marciano may have been 5'7 for all I know. But if he moved to heavyweight today, he'd been advertised as 6'1 by default.

It's funny that people get into so many arguments and debates around these figures that can't even be trusted.

I know in Tyson's early fights he was actually billed as 6 foot. Holyfield was billed as high 6'3". Both of those listings are laughable.

I agree, Rocky at 6'1" and 72" wingspan, with that "big frame" and"dense bones"

It's far easier these days though. There are so many photos about. There's actually a dedicated website the only purpose of which is to relay the "true heights" of celebrity . There is a photograph of Mike on that sight with some film director who may or may not lie about his height but who claims to be 5'8; this, if true, puts Mike at 5'10 ish. It's hardly case closed but yeah. Much easier.

Interestingly, Marciano looks a little shorter than his listed height to me when he's treated in this manner. He looks slightly taller than Reggie Kray and Dean Martin for example which would put him at 5'9 maybe. That said, i'm not getting into a blazing row with anyone about it and he was older and heavier when these photos were taken and apparently you can get a bit shorter.

But yeah, you can for sure start doing comparisons with people who have no reason to lie about their height (not necessarily Dean Martin) and take it from there, if you're really interested.

    Yeah that's a good site.

Reggie Kray, Dean Martin and Rocky Marciano. Aaaah, the good ol' days.

    Two questions.

#1, Does anyone think Rocky would lose to Primo Carnera?

#2, Do we really know for absolute certainty that any recent champions were even as good as Carnera?

    Reggie Kray would never lie.
Wouldn't hurt a fly either. They only ever hurt other villains, didn't they. And ones what deserved it, slags and grasses.

He's got a boxrec record, too. I think, one of them do. Or maybe both of them do.

 I suspect this thread is about to go from surreal to ultra-surreal.
