This is a gem. Deserves to be put on a pedestal.

Forgive me for asking, but do you have any other axes to grind? I'd love to see you make more.

How come I didn't ses a cue in the vid saying it was. No "haha", no change of music as a symbol, nothing. Obviously the guy was serious. Like I said the film lost all credibility at 3:04.:good

Then why was it there and not alluded to as a "joke" by the maker of the vid?

... because Pontius and his intended audience are sophisticated enough to appreciate it's humor and further, realize that any acknowledgement of the obviousness of the humor would diminish that humor to the point of nil.

I agree he is underrated defensively, but I'm not sure this video proves it. You summed him up as a decent defensive fighter in 4:00, but I'm sure you could also make a video of him getting hit by obvious punches in the same amount of time. You could probably also make a case for Ricardo Mayorga being an accurate puncher or Joe Louis having a good chin in just 240 seconds. I don't know what 4:00 of defensive manouvres proves in a 49 fight, 241 round career.

It was very well produced though, so well done. I just hope people look at the bigger picture and study entire fights of him before coming to a conclusion on his defence.

Sorry to **** on your chips though, mate. Very good video :good

(Christ, I've only just seen NickHudson's post. Most of my point have already been made, but there you go. I'll put it down to great minds thinking alike :D)

A great video which underlines Marciano's boxing brain.

It's a great video because it single handily makes the common theory of Marciano lacking any sort of defence instantly void.

Marciano's detractors are a dime a dozen, but here you have an objective presentation for them to chew on.

In response to Jack, the video simply shows that Marciano could implement successful defensive manoeuvres into his foray. We have had the criticism, here is some positive feeback. It's a video to combat regularly spouted fallacies, not one to make Marciano out to be something he was not.

Very good video I must say. Excellent use of music and slowmo replays which capture a far higher level of 'subtilty' and cunning in terms of Marciano's defense, evasiveness, movement, blocking shots, countering and general tactical mindset than some of us have given him credit for (watching his fights normally). I've got to say though that despite rating him highly legacy wise, I'm still unconvinced he'd be a head-to-head force of nature (lets be fair, the video wasn't a flawless defensive masterclass in the vein of, say Whitaker for example).

I still struggle to envisage him being overly successfull against that many ATG's (the size factor still counts for alot). Especially the big, talented hardpunching heavyweights, some who had that hint of speed to go with it. Marciano never really faced anybody as big and great as Lewis, Tyson, Liston etc. Foreman would always be a nightmare matchup too.

If I can speak for him for a moment, I'd say that he didn't care if "everybody" got it. Haven't you ever seen Don Rickles? He's a pro at zeroing in on the guy sitting there blinking while everyone else is laughing at his joke. And when he did, the guy would be under the table in shame.

    Don't be that guy.
