The energy of Marciano's kayo punch is the equivilant of an armour piercing shell.

What does this exactly translate to? I have also heard it said the energy of Marciano's punch was equal to a small car going 25 miles an hour upon impact.

I really hate these types of statements. People always tend to get mislead to believing they are more incredible feats then they really are. And I think the scientists that came up with both statements are aware of that. Many solid heavyweights would achieve these measurements. Hell, if I trained I could probably do it. The first statement just means that the force it takes to knock something back with Marciano's punch is as hard as the force it takes for an armor piercing bullet to knock the same object back, assuming it's bullet proof. The second statement just means Marciano could punch a small object as far back as a car going 25 mph would be able to hit it. Note I said "small object". If it were bigger objects, of course the car would knock it back a lot further than Marciano.

All that stuff aside, Marciano, who has sooo many detractors in this day and age, was a crippling puncher, who I say, landed the untimate ko punch against Jersey Joe Walcott in that 13th round in his title winning bout. That's right..the ultimate ko, and the ultimate right hand as well. It was, however, never to be replicated by Rocky, as he was transformed into more of a crushing, methodical type of volume puncher by his great trainer Charlie Goldman, who maybe figured that it would be better worth Rocky's time and perfect record not to have aymore "cliff hangers" like that 1st Walcott match before landing a single perfect bomb, instead take a more sure route to victory by beat down instead.

Great puncher, but stylistically just an ugly fighter.

Its the fighters like Jack Dempsey, JJ Walcott, Joe Louis, Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, Rex Layne, Lastarza, Joe Frazier, Ali, Tyson....that have either been in the ring with Marciano or have an real expert opinion of power and they all say he was one of the hardest punchers and most relentless on top of his heart and stamina. Despite Marciano's weight which at 188 is an issue but not for this FREAK who before a fight went from 7 miles to 10 and then right before a fight 15 miles a day ( according to some reports) which explains his weight. Forget his weight he is still one of the hardest punchers ever in the Heavyweight upper class....Dempsey,Louis,Baer,Foreman,Frazier,Lewis,Tyson

The term "armour piercing bullet" implies an element of hyperbole.

An armour piercing bullet does not produce any more kinetic energy on impact than a soft point bullet. It just gets its energy spread out over a wider area.
Having said that I dont want it pushed in my face with a boxing glove over it.

It relates to white americans need to worry about how this country is falling apart instead of making up stupid stuff about white fighters of the past. Marciano never knocked out a world class fighter who was still in their prime. Archie Moore many fighters including Marciano and said Yvon Durrelle punched harder

The Rock nearly killed Carmine Vingo in 1949...he sheared Rex Layne's teeth of at the nubs....he smashed Lee Savold's teeth up into his gums...Roland LaStarza had to have surgery to repair the damage to his arms(broken bones and ruptured blood vessels..causing blood clots) after the beating he received from Marciano in 1953...
laid out JJW with the best right hand ever thrown to win the title after being floored...being blinded for 3 rounds..and being behind on all score cards...the man was the best conditioned fighter who ever lived....he just kept on coming...

Power is a lethal weapon in any era and his had some of the most experienced and slick fighters. match that power with stamina and the will to win, Big Balls and fearlessness and killer instinct...on top of that he was never hurt in the ring but was hit...underated defensive skills and a rythym breaker....one of the top 4 punchers in the division, Louis, Marciano, Foreman, Lewis not in order

You seem to be the only person here obsesed with the colour of Rocky Marcianos skin.

I suspect the bottom line is that you hate him because he is a white heavyweight champion who beat all the leading black contenders of his era.

If this is all that you can contribute to this forum then you are not really of any use to it.

The subject of Marciano's punch and your black supremicist agenda is like mixing oil and water. You need to find a forum somewhere populated with like minded racists...you'll be more at home.

    Force = Mass x acceleration

Weigh his fist first, then accelerate it from a zero to a speed at impact.

    Make the calculation.

Do the same with a bullet going from zero to the speed of sound.

    Compare the results.

Now I have the bizarre mental image of Rocky's fist on the end of one of those extendable joke guns...
