There was a Maricano fan site with some rankings from the time he was champ. I will dig them up for you tomorrow its pretty late.

big deal. he never fought a killer heavyweight in their prime....joe walcott was 37, but back then would be equal to a 47 year old now. Joe louis was ancient...archie moore was ancient.....

Not great. He could make you miss with small subtle movements but it's nothing great. One thing that I do think is underrated in Rocky's inventory was his jab. It wasn't flashy but it was a very good jab for the style he was fighting. Without that educated jab, I firmly believe he wouldn't have been known to be half the fighter he's known as today.

    Period.

Patterson would have DEFINITELY gotten his chin cracked in a fifteen rounder with Marciano. Definitely does not go 15.

to fight his style you need some strong legs and a strong back. If he had better balance his counters would have been even more murderous!

That's almost the dumbest thing a person is capable of saying.

agreed...well put. marciano was not the face first brawler that he is so often made out to be--interestingly, he is often painted in this way by his fans. but having the ability to move reasonably well doesn't make a guy willie pep, right?

Nah...let us not be carried away here. Any seasoned fighter will, by virtue experience, gain defensive instinct to duck and evade getting hit. I'm sure if you go through all of Gatti's fights in slomo, he will have his great defensive moves as well. :p

Fact is that Marciano's defense is nowhere near among great defensive fighters...judging from the way he looks after most of his fights. So let us not sensationalise him further from what he really was.

Name me a heavy that Wlad beat that was a killer HW

Rocky beat who was put in front of him. End of story. If Marciano was black people be slurping on him.
