Marco Antonio Barrera - One of the great comebacks in modern boxing

Yeah, all those brutal wars before Barrera really took the stuffing out of him.

This is one of my favorite victories/performances of all time. It really helped solidify me as a more-than-casual boxing fan. In fact, you could say it was THE pivotal moment in that transition.

It saddens me when people have only seen the latter-day shell of MAB and judge him by that period (from JMM on). If they only knew how many times he'd already defied the odds and bounced back in his career before that. Written off after Jones x2. Written off some time between Morales I and Hamed. Written off after Pac I. Written off after Juarez I, and picked to lose by KO in the rematch! atsch

The very fact that he wound up picking a few wins at light welterweight in the last few years, in his late thirties (even low-level wins that he struggled for) is AMAZING.

Holyfield took steroids. Don;'t know why he gets the credit he does, clear steroid cheat.

Hopkins is a legend, but news circling that he might be on P.E.D.S, although I don't believe so.

Im not a fan of Barrera but I agree that the comeback was great, he has had a good career and was a terrific fighter.
Im still a little dissapointed in him not giving the 135 title a final shot, him vs demarco would be a good way to retire, win or lose.
Now he is just silently retiring.

Naz never had a prime - not in the terms we would use for other fighters , he squandered his peak years sulking and not being able to come to terms with losing to Barrera - no way was naz shop worn by 2001 , not like Morales was
by the time of the 3rd pac fight ( a comparison only - not to denigrate pac)

its just his fans have a hard time accepting the fact that he blew the biggest fight of his life by underestimating MAB, running a soft camp surrounded by yes men( all family ) and then having no tactics at all barring trying to land a KO shot.

He got away with it because he is - while not on Barrera's level as an offensive force (no slouch himself by any measure, just not on Barrera's level) - an even harder mother****er and bigger badass than Barrera.
