Thoughts on this solid match up? A highly technical fight along with some aggressive exchanges this would have been. between two skilled boxer punchers.

Barrera UD simply the better fighter IMO.

Man this is a great match up. Brian was able to adjust to his opponent and I think this is why he wins this.
I have many of his fights on DVD and he is very underrated. He had a very high boxing IQ.
I think it would be a very close fight but this is also Brian's natural weight class.

I’d have to go with Mitchell because it’s at 130 and that’s his natural weight while Barrera was at his best a division or even two below. Brian is just that bit more bigger and stronger and MAB wasn’t a big puncher above feather so it becomes a boxing contest … and in that, I favor Mitchell.

I'm in the position of having seen a lot of Mitchell and less of Barrera. Mitchell has always impressed me tremendously as an impeccable all round fighter. Barrera is also very impressive as a come forward technically correct fighter and his losses were only really to the very best. Plus he got rid of Hamed who annoyed me so there's that. Hard for me to pick because Mitchell was always so adaptable in a fight and he could figure out a difficult opponent and pick him apart by the end of the bout. Leaning towards Mitchell but I'm guessing most people will pick Barrera.

I have to add I do think Mitchell does get a bit overhyped on here yes he is a very eye pleasing fighter to watch but his resume isn't all that......

The gulf in class that Barrera was fighting against compared to Mitchell is humongous.

Yes the Tony Lopez wins were good but its not like Mitchell dominated Lopez they very competitive fights that Mitchell edged by a few rounds.

Outside of that what else is there on Mitchell's resume that really stands out ?

Alfredo Layne ? Who was basically a fringe contender with a 15-12 record who beat a totally shot Wilfredo Gomez way above his best weightclass.

Jim McDonnell ? Solid win nothing more.

    Draw with 11-3 Jose Rivera.

    Jackie Beard ?

    Daniel Cabrera ?

These are not upper echelon opponents.

Don't get me wrong I like Mitchell and I enjoy watching him fight but there's absolutely nothing on his resume to suggest he could go up atleast 2 more levels and beat an ATG like Barrera.

And whilst Super Featherweight may not of been Barrera's best weight he still beat Morales clearly in their 3rd fight, another good win vs Juarez, and had a very even great fight with a prime JMM.

    In a P4P sense, not at 130.
