It's been a while since I saw their fight but I just watched it again and I almost forgot how great that fight was. I was also surprised how well Barrera boxed against JMM and it had me thinking how the fight would have ended had Barrera scored the KD and not have a point taken away from him.

How do you think a prime Marco Antonio Barrera would do against a prime JMM?

if all the rounds were the exactly same? barrera could have won a close decision. he was BRILLIANT those first six rounds

The bad call by the ref and having a point deducted obviously messed Barrera big time. I think had he scored the KD maybe the following rounds would have been different and perhaps he could have won.

Knockdown or no knockdown, Marquez won a close but clear fight.

Id fancy Barrera to edge him on points prime for prime tho, personally.

The greatest display of technical skill shown by both fighters in a fight, from the last decade.

    Beautiful fight.

That's the fight where I gained the huge respect for Barrera that I still have to this day. Will be watching that fight in a few days or so along with Toney/RJJ.

I need to rewatch. I don't recall how I scored it. I think I scored it close but for Marquez. I'm not sure if the points awared to Marquez made a diffrance in my score.

I watched it last night, from a purists viewpoint it's one of the greatest fights of the modern era.

I actually had Barrera winning their actual fight, Nady's bull**** call aside. Brilliant battle.

Indeed. World class stuff. Barrera and Marquez were just master craftsman. One of the best highly technical matches alongside Toney-McCallum and Whitaker-McGirt.

I have always been huge fans of both fighters. I saw Barrera's US debut when he had just turned 18 and he was special then. I saw JMM's 7th pro fight and I have watched both men often, working out in gyms and fighting. When they fought, I wanted Marquez to win, to get the attention and the credit he had been denied for so long.
Had they fought in their primes, I think the outcome might have been different. That is because I think Barrera was smarter at a younger age, while Marquez certainly has caught up, and has aged better to boot. I could very well be wrong about that because Marquez has always had Beristain in his corner and I'm sure he has had some sessions either talking to or otherwise learning from Ricardo Lopez.
