How highly did you rate him at his prime?

Very highly, I never even gave Pac a decent chance when they first fought.

I thought MAB was more skilled, better chin, better defense, equally powerful with both hands, naturally bigger, equally faster, etc. Boy was I wrong.

I rate him in the top 3 at 122, top 15 at 126, and top 15 at 130. On my P4P list, he's in the top 80. Definitely an ATG.

Exceptionally versatile with an unbelievable heart. A true legend!

The reasoning behind me starting this topic was a conversation i had with a mexican i know who believs Barerra to be the second best mexican fighter ever behind not surprisingly Chavez would u agree with this view? I can see names such as salvador Sanchez being mentioned.

    I think he's a little outside of the top 5 - probably around 7th

He's got te be around 4-7 top Mexican fighters pfp.

Sanchez/Olivares/Chavez/Cuevas are all ahead of him and thats just off the top of my head.

I know I'm missing one or 2 other top Mexicans.

In terms of ATG status, MAB is in the top 75 fighters of all time.

I don't think Cuevas ranks ahead of him. A few that do include:

    Chavez
    Sanchez
    Olivares
    Canto
    Lopez
    Zarate
    Saldivar

In fact those are probably the only ones I rank above Morales and Barrera.

I'd rank Chavez, Sanchez, Lopez, Olivares, and Zarate over him. I give him a slight edge over Morales, Canto, and Saldivar. Cuevas is a level below the guys I listed in my opinion.

I actually give Morales the slight edge, based on how well they did against similar opposition, rather than their personal head to head meetings, but I have no problems with anyone rating Barrera higher. I can't rank either over Saldivar though, very underrated great with a top notch resume.
