Found this quite interesting from Rafael's notebook:

    Lemieux update

In April, 22-year-old middleweight David Lemieux (25-1, 24 KOs), a heavy favorite and one of boxing's rising stars, was dominating Marco Antonio Rubio before being shockingly knocked out in the seventh round on ESPN2's "Friday Night Fights." Although he is supposed to return in December -- possibly against fellow Montreal fighter and former junior middleweight titlist Joachim Alcine -- he will do so without trainer Russ Anber, whom he had worked with since he was 9.

Anber and Michel, Lemieux's promoter, both said the split was amicable. Lemieux will now be trained by Marc Ramsay, one of Anber's close friends who also trains former light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal.

"I let him go because I didn't want him to fight in December," Anber told ESPN.com. "What I wanted from him was a four-month commitment to boxing. Train, get his weight down, do a lot of conditioning and then go to a training camp. We spent the last five months trying to get him to commit to training. I realized I'm banging my head against the wall. I want him to see what you need to do to be an elite middleweight, to prepare for a career, not just one fight, and we weren't going to see eye to eye."

Anber said he brought Lemieux to train with middleweight champion Martinez in Oxnard, Calif., for two weeks before Martinez's Oct. 1 fight to demonstrate how a top pound-for-pound fighter trains. Anber said Lemieux was miserable and has yet to put together three consecutive weeks of training since the Rubio fight.

"We just don't see eye to eye on the way he should be preparing for fights," Anber said. "Instead of him being miserable in the gym, and for my mental sanity, it's better to go separate ways than butt heads. Marc has my blessing. He trains his fighters in my gym, so this split with David is not a hateful split or about money. It's just we are on a different philosophical plane on what it takes to succeed in the elite world of boxing."

Looks like another Canadian hypejob has bitten the dust.

Marc Ramsay is Pascal's trainer. So he would probably **** his stamina even more up xD

Rubio contributed to David's descent - exposed his defense and, subsequently, his stamina/chin in the ring.

He didn't ruin Lemieux. David is just not serious enough about boxing, not putting the effort in, and has been like that for years. At least that's what we were led to believe through interviews from the past 5-6 months. I doubt Ramsay is firm enough to get him to train like a Clubber Lang madman... first indication will come with the Alcine fight, I want to see if he looks better conditioned, if his offense got more balanced, etc.

Used to like Lemieux but I don't care for him any more. I can't get behind a fighter who doesn't take their boxing seriously. It's shows arrogance and mental weakness.

Such a shame he doesn't possess the mentaility required to be a great boxer. The guy is very talented.

:patsch Everyone is a hype job who is known at all and not absolutely 100% successful, on here. David is a talented, massively powerful, good fighter. That sad, it's sad, how this reflects on his level of commitment, but it's his life and sometimes you have to let kids make their own mistakes. If true, he might yet mature.

Russ Anber sounds like one helluva a trainer. The sport needs more trainers like him. Who else does he train and anyone worth looking out for?

He will never reach the outer limits of boxings best. He thought it would be a walk in the park and he was just that good, he's not. His old trainer was right, he needed to dedicate to reach that level. While he's not putting together training, somebody else is. Talent is one thing, but having the talent to develop your talent will set you apart. He can still be a star in Canada and fight bums, but on the world stage, I'm not holding my breath.

i don't always agree with his commentating and analysis but he is a great, well respected trainer here.

he and david lemieux did some fantastic training videos when david was still basically a kid

  12. Strong call by the trainer. Respect

Oh yeah many have seen those training vids, they were great for fundamentals.

Russ Anber talks too much to the media. These kind of statements should never make it public.

I don't know who else he trains, but he is in a lot of fighters' corners. Pascal and MArtinez at his fight against Barker.

I never thought much of him. He's too ****ing small to be a middleweight! At his age and size the guy should be at WW or LMW, not MW. Once he stepped up in class (Rubio) and fought a real MW he was exposed. Not saying he's a complete hypejob, but he was exposed for what he is, an overrated and undersized guy who lacks dedication to his craft. He seems to be talented and I think he could be something at a lower weigh class if he got serious about boxing, but obviously that is not the case...
