cunningham is going to need a knockout - no one wins a decision in germany who isnt European :deal if he can come forward and be aggressive he can beat huck IMO
Nonsense! Huck only got a split point decision in his last fight against a non-european fighter.Huck vs Tokarev was staged on Huck's home turf in Germany, and whoever watched that fight surely agrees with me that Huck deserved a relatively wide point decision.Just to make matter clear:I for my part was rooting for Tokarev. However,Huck deserved a unanimous point decision. One blind judge really dared to score that fight in favour of Tokarev! Therefore I am not as pessimistic as you are when talking about point decisions in Germany.Tokarev didnt stem from Europe either, but from Russia. He received a very flattering split decision loss in Huck's backyard. That shows me that point decision for a German or German based fighter is no sure bet. Anyway! As sean rightfully pointed out:Cunningham fights anything like he did against Wlodaryzk he loses. Huck is head and shoulders over the Pole in terms of firepower and mental toughness.
I shake my head with this a little I mean, you have a former National Gold Gloves Champ from Philadelphia vs a Former Kickboxer/tae kwan doe, limited amateur background and the latter appears to have the better skill??:nut :nut :nut :nut But it seems true to me with these two:-( . Huck's hand speed, range with straight shots, and size looks to me like they will control Cunningham on points:good For Cunningham? He has great size and reach but its not his style to use it. He ties up too much and doesnt pop the jab and use angles as he should. Huck's not a big puncher but he's the better puncher here. I wanna root for Cunnigham, but the skill sets dont appear to match up too well.
any other takes on this fight? Some people have agreed with sean but have still gone for the T/KO win...please explain your pick!:good
huck has never been seen in america and its hard to pick against what you know (cunningham) against what you have never seen.
While he hasnt been broadcast here in the US? Dont mean some of us dont search for vids:nono I cant believe Huck has better skills given their backgrounds, but it looks to be true.:-( Although, Cunnigham doesnt fight in the manner he should. With his frame? He should fight much more at range and EFFECTIVELY at range. I dont think Cunnigham will win more than four rounds.
Huck is every bit as fast and seems to utilize more punches consistently. He has the better power, tighter defense, and is very mobile. I think he should win a pretty clear decision or probably score a late TKO. Cunningham, as stated by others, is just too safety first and far too reliant on the jab. The jab alone won't keep Huck off of him over 12.
First off I like both fighters and have seen both guys several times. Here's my take on the fight: Cunningham: I think a lot of you folks are basing your opinions off the Wlodarcyzk fights, fights where I think Cunningham was probably a bit hesitant. What Steve brings is a lot of skill, good jab, great movement and balance, and at his best, high workrate. He's vastly underrated and those of you that say otherwise, please tell me what fights other than his last one you've seen? His movement is pretty much constant and when he's best is when it's not just defensive movement, but backed with combination punching. He reminds me a bit of Paul Williams in terms of looking like all his body parts are moving at once, tough to hit cleanly. He fell in too much against Wlodarcyzk, something he can't do against the stronger Huck. To beat Huck, Cunningham will have to employ his usual moving style, jabbing to keep Huck from getting set, moving laterally, but must also get back to his old ways of high output, otherwise he will most likely languish on the outside while Huck launches his attacks, thus losing rounds. Marco Huck: Very strong kid, heavy handed, deceptively fast hand speed, can close the distance in a hurry. Huck has tremendous potential and has shown improvement of late. He tends to come in with high guard, throwing right hands and sometimes two or three punch combinations, almost always with ill intentions. He is not always fluid, is often upright and there to be hit. To his credit, he showed the addition of a jab against Tokarev, something that was sorely needed in his arsenal. Against Cunningham, Huck should use that jab to work his way in, close the distance fast like he's capable of, then try and punish Cunningham with high volumes of hard punches. If Cunningham leanes in for the clinch, Huck has the strength to take the half or full step back, rip himself free, and keep punching. What Huck shouldn't do is be lazy, follow Cunningham without stepping in with shots and let Cunningham pick at him from distance and flummox him with awkward movement. I picked Cunningham by close decision because, even though it's in Germany, I think he's got the skills and experience to trouble Huck. Huck as a 4-1 favorite is absurd and is a demonstration of the disrespect shown Cunningham. Still, the Huck is strong and if Cunningham fights a less than inspired fight he will lose a wide decision or maybe even get stopped late. I don't think that happens, and I'll take the upset and go with Cunningham, provided the judging isn't completely skewed.
By the way ,sean, did you watch Huck vs Tokarev? I for my part hadnt been really sold on Huck before he defeated Tokarev. Tokarev is a genuine top gun,and Huck looked quite impressive when he dominated the rough fighter from Kasan in the later rounds of their encounter.Huck has improved a lot within the last couple of months IMO.
Quick correction on Huck, he isn't Albanian he is from Sandzak, his last name is also southern Slavic and not Albanian.
Cunnighams jab aint NO Larry Holmes type jab and his game is wrong for the faster handed, straighter throwing attack.
Exactly. We have two American fighters, Cunningham and Kevin Johnson, that think you can jab, jab, jab and jab some more and win every fight. Sometimes that won't work and I expect USS to find that out soon.
Huck doesn't have the experience to handle Cunningham's spoiler tactics. He'll negate the limited Huck's strtaight in-out attacks with clever lateral movement and punch-and-grab on the inside. Cunningham will get under Huck's lunging punches and start catching him on the way in once he get's the Cap'ns timing down. Huck will not know how to adjust. Cunningham is a very skilled, versatile fighter... just not spectacular. Not an easy fight by any means... the Cap'n has talent, but not enough savvy.
