It's disappointing to see as someone who's followed him for a few years now. Boytsov at least had the look of being able to reach solid contender status. Now, it looks like inactivity and apathy wrecked any chance of reaching that ceiling. He looks like a gatekeeper now, he's just not being matched like it yet.
Huh. According to his Boxrec page, Brischetto usually does box orthodox...but has been southpaw all night so far.
Round 3 Kölling is walking forward, gloves attached to his eyebrows. Brischetto is leading him on a low-gear chase around the ring, stopping every couples of paces to drop in a light drumroll or single right jab. Kölling is timing his right hand and bursting through Brischetto's gloves with it on the rare occasion he traps him by the ropes or in a corner but mostly Brischetto is swimming in open water and countering albeit lightly with his light jabs and flurries. Kölling isn't getting close enough to land body shots with any regularity. 10-9 Brischetto 29-28 Kölling
Round 4 Kölling is stepping in, reaching with a jab, doing nothing but rearranging oxygen molecules with it, then having to cover up as Brischetto quickly double-taps with the right jab or slings himself in with the southpaw 1-2. Kölling tries a long lead left hook on the body and gets parried with Brischetto's downward-swiping right forearm but Kölling grazes his jaw bringing a second left hook up immediately to follow up. Brischetto mixes in left uppercut on the body off the jab coming in and gets Kölling to actually back up. Brischetto finishes on the front-foot, hitting Kölling on the body and putting him on the ropes. 10-9 Brischetto, close 38-38
Round 5 Kölling is putting his palms to his forehead and leaning in as Brischetto mirrors, and they lean together like roof beams. Kölling is a little busier with his left jab and begins to create spots to land stepping out and then quickly back in. Left hook downstairs by Kölling. Brischetto remains offensively quiet. Right jab backing up by Brischetto, then jumping to his right and circling wide. 10-9 Kölling 48-47 Kölling
Round 6 Kölling lands a mean body shot and Brischetto is DOWN by the ropes for a nine count. He reluctantly gets back into the fray. Brischetto is circling away, putting out defensive right jabs. Kölling is moseying in, not in a hurry to pile on the pain. Kölling lunges in and jabs the body from outside, blocking right jabs up top with his right glove crossed over from its usual spot by his temple to between his eyes. 10-8 Kölling 58-55 Kölling
Round 7 Kölling lands another left on the body while pressing Brischetto across the ring, this one a hook. Brischetto is down, wincing. He gets up at eight but looks fragile, as though breathing now hurts. Kölling again comes in with a lukewarm attitude toward finishing, just pestering Brischetto with light double left jabs on the head to press him into the ropes. Kölling picks up the intensity mixing in some big superman rights behind the increasingly sharp double jab. Brischetto is now switched to orthodox, pawing with a left jab as he tries staving Kölling off to not end up in a corner. Brischetto switches back to southpaw and strafes to freedom. Right jab by Brischetto, and back to orthodox flurrying lightly as Kölling backs him up with long body shots. 10-8 Kölling 68-63 Kölling
This is going much longer than our next "German" vs. Italian battle should... We shouldn't have to wait until the 6th for a knockdown in that one.
