Maidana is a tough strong hard hitting dangerous fighter and can challenge pretty much anybody @ 140...

A great test for fighters at that weight since he hits so hard at it.

Maidana's style is compromised by southpaw fast slick fighters...

and his power doesn't seem to improve by moving up 7 pounds..
Guerrero probaly would have handled maidana... but has a very unorthodox southpaw style... so who knows...

Rios vs Maidana - good future fight

Alexander fought a brilliant fight against a guy who clearly isnt suited to the 147lb division, still some good fight to be made for Maidana at 140lbs.

Maidana is set. He's had a ton of exposure on HBO against big name opponents, been in big televised fights for a few years now earning him a name with fans and people in the business. Add this to a fan friendly style and I'm sure he'll be the B side to a lot more fights on big networks.

He seemed to be improving...not to take anything away from Alexander who fixed his technique real nice, but Maidana did not seem all there last night.

I think Devon's chin is underrated and Vic Ortiz's chin is overrated.

I still want to see Maidana and Rios at 140 someday. Maidana and Matthysse would be nice as well. Maidana is one of those guys who will never reach elite level but is always in a position to score an upset and be in interesting fights.

Some entertaining fights can be made with Maidana. But unfortunately he has become "an opponent" skilled boxers call out so they can look good. Good enough to be taken seriously, tough enough to make it a longer/more exciting fight, but the skills he brings relies on landing hail mary punches. As long as you don't take a rest against him and get caught - you should win.

Sums up the long, pissed off paragraph I was about to write. :good

Maidana will be fine, Top 10 fighter, Gives most in the top 5 a good fight and stays around 7 himself.

He should face the Matthysse-Soto, Morales-Garcia winner or Judah-Paris winner, If he needs an easier and quicker comeback fight that he wants on USA TV then he needs at least the Holt-Coleman winner.

    Many great fights for him.

This sounds just like the things people were saying about Helenius after Chisora, He'll be a top ten guy too! He bet tough former world champs/Title challengers Peter, Liakhovich and Brewster!! He is no nobody since he lost a fight like Maidana did!

Alexander looked the best he did in years! Boxed perfectly! This Alexander would have likely outboxed Matthysse, Kotelnik and givin Bradley a tough, tough fight! Props to Alexander! No reason to put down Maidana! :good

I have to admit,I've never been a fan of Alexander, but he was very efficient last night.
I think people are for getting that there is a huge difference between being an elite, and a top level fighter.Maidana is a top level fighter in the 140 division, and that is a big achievement for a fighter who relies so heavily on power.I think a lot of last night's fight was about Alexander being wrong for 140 and Maidana is wrong for 147.
I always felt people got a bit too excited about Maidana,he's very much in the Mayorga mould, but there are a lot of top level fighters at 140 who will find him a nightmare.
To suggest he's finished is hasty,to say the least.

No he's not. In fact he's never won a legit world title.

After being defeated by Kotelnik, he won an 'interim' title. This despite Kotelnik being a fairly active champ who was preparing to defend his title against Khan. As we know Khan defeated Kotelnik, and proceeded to defend the title four times before unifying against Judah.

As per the WBA rules, Khan was upgraded to the status of 'super' champion upon unifying, a title he relinquished in his next bout when he was defeated by Lamont Peterson.

Maidana has only ever won 'interim' and 'regular' titles.

Losing to Alexander means Maidana is done? Boxing works in misterious ways once a fighter is said to be done by fans and boxing writers they always find a way to shock the boxing world again. Expect Maidana to make noise in the future and once again be part of the mix. He will be competitive with any fighter in this division, dont count him out until the fight is over.

I aint gonna hate on Maidana cause he always comes to fight. He don't ***** or complain. He was rabbit punched three times in succession by Alexander and didnt say a word. I think he is still a hard proposition and can possibly win a title. Alexander was just ready and in shape to handle his power cause remember, he was moving up too. Props to Maidana and I will still watch him whenever he fights.:bbb

Maidana had no answer to Alexander's hit and hold strategy. That's about it.
