"Would he have thrown a power punch at the bell if Khan hadn't offered a glove? I doubt it. It was just blatant opportunism."

well freddie pendleton walked over to hattons corner and threw a hail mary straight at him, luckily for him hatton ducked it beautifully, but its not that unusual for guys to throw a haymaker at the opening bell.

usually they plan to do it beforehand, so it throws them off when their opponent goes to touch gloves, but then again, he may have just tried to score abig KO on the fly to take advantage. im not sure which is the case with maidana

Its not very sportsmanlike, but he is indeed well within his rights to do such a thing, when that bell rings, its anything goes, you are under NO obligation to touch gloves, play fair, or do anything like it.

    I agree here 100%

Mentally, Maidana probably felt that he needed to make it a war so that's what he did. It's easy to sit on a couch and be critical of one's morals when they are not in the ring.

He proved himself a ***** multiple times in the fight. He continually hit while being told to break, head butted, elbowed, and threw haymakers when Khan put his hand out to him. Then pulled a ***** move after the fight when trying to be interviewed.

Good fighter, but I don't respect him.

Amir tried to touch gloves with him like 20 times and Maidana always responded with a haymaker lol. Some guys just don't do it, no big deal, the fight has already begun he's not obligated to do it.

Protect yourself at all times. The bell for the first round went...protect yourself at all times.

Mayweather hit Mosley when Mosley wanted a conversation...that was also opportunistic in a way, but very legal.

Exactly. The fighters just touched gloves after referee instructions. Why this obsession with touching gloves at the start of a round.

It was very dumb of Amir to try to touch gloves at the start of the 11th. That mofo is trying to build momentum to KO you. Don't give him an opening like that.

It is always done in sparring so for many fighters it is habitual

Maidana is a dirty fighter elbow rabbit punches etc..and I'm a Khan fan. But once the bell rings its on I dont like to see fighters touch gloves unless its the last round of a brutal fight. Maidana come there for blood he doesnt want to touch gloves its a fight.

I don't have a problem with it, the same way I don't have a problem with Hagler coming out swiping against Hearns. A fight is a fight and if a guy doesn't want to touch gloves, he doesn't need to. Maidana came for war, not friendship.
