    That's your opinion.
Till he beats Kotelnik he won't move up.
And what he did in the amateurs doesn't matter,Ortiz will surely KO him,why do you think Warren chose Kotelnik?Because he can't punch.

Khan Ortiz would be ****ing Amazing!!!

This is just great news all round. The winner of this little mini tournament will definitely be in great position to be called the number one challenger in the division to whomever is at the top (JMM, Ricky, PAc).

I love this division. There is just soo much going on here.

The thread title is very misleading, there's nothing to suggest that Khan would face Ortiz. Him and Warren are going to avoid punchers like the plague.

The fight is officially on for June 27, in the Staples Center, Los Angeles, for the interim WBA LWW belt.

BTW on the misleading title: Rafael wrote "Ortiz-Maidana will be for an interim title and the winner is in line for the Kotelnik-Khan winner, who may have to first defend against official WBA mandatory challenger Dmitriy Salita.", which is a pretty strong suggestion the GBP will look for the full title. Why would they go for the interim belt in the first place?

Lets not overhype Ortiz who has beaten a bunch of journeymen and limited American club fighters up to now.
Whats going to be the damage from the power-punching Maidana who has proved that he belongs among the very best rivals out there?
Ortiz still has to prove that he can compete with the top dogs out there.

    Anyway!

Maidana vs Ortiz seems to be one!!:good

man im hyped for this fight. i actually thought maidana just edged it against kotelnik. should be a good test for ortiz, and maidana's power + ruggedness are recipes for a possible upset. this **** has the makings of a classic latin slugfest.

    Maidana - 25 (24) - 1

    Ortiz - 24 (19) - 1 - 1

If their records are any indecation, this will be a good match, I'll pick Maidana by TKO.

They (being GBP) wanted Ortiz/Kotelnik to be the main event on the Kirkland/Dz, Juarez/John double header. Somehow through Frank Warren magic, Khan got the gig.

I must say Salita/Kotelnik-Khan followed by the winner of THAT taking on the winner of Ortiz-Maidana is a pretty sweet lil set up.

Maidana landing big on Khan's chin would create a mess out of him. :bbb

Yep! Kotelnik vs Maidana was a very close fight.I for my part wouldnt certainly argue the toss with someone who had the tough Argie ahead on points after 12 very entertaining and exciting rounds.
    A possible upset?
Damn! Ortiz must be totally overrated over there in the states.Up to now he has beaten a bunch of American journeymen and club fighters like Arnoutis or Resto.Maidana has proved that he is the real deal by making the water extremely hot for one of the reigning champs.
Upset? Pah! It will be an upset if Ortiz is able to beat Maidana and not the other way round.
Lets wait and see how Ortiz fares against a powerful puncher who wants to duke it out with him!
