Marcos Maidana - Timothy Bradley rescheduled for July 17, HBO! It's ON!

No one wants to touch Tim Bradley: he's a superb boxer with all the goods for P4P greatness but with low marketablity, and no one wants to be his stepping stone for popularity, that's why he was forced to look for a fight at 147. Not anymore: the light welterweight upset kid Chino Maidana stepped up and takes on Bradley on July 17 in a scincillating fight on HBO! Bradley is a class above Maidana and should be heavily favored to put on a clinic, but it's boxing and Chino has a 93% KO ratio to knock your gameplan out, just ask Victor Ortiz and Victor Cayo.

This is such a great fight because Bradley, the far superior boxer showed chin issues in the Holt fight and Maidana is raw and can be outboxed, but has a huge heart and some skills he's not being credited for. A really good boxer vs. a really hard puncher, what more can you ask? I'd say Maidana is more awkward than raw and showed some boxing vs. Kotelnik, his only and very close loss vs. the highly defensive counterpuncher, and he improved under Miguel Diaz, becoming the only two-fisted body-KO artist in the sport. And I'd also say Bradley has a better punch than being credited for, and since Chino can throws 100 punches per round, you just can't rule out ANY outcome! Of course respect goes to Bradley as well, Maidana also has a horrible risk/reward ratio, but whoever comes out on top will have no marketability issues anymore: it will be a fight and fighter to remember!

Latest victim on Chino's Kayo roll: unbeaten Victor Cayo!

I can't help but like this extremely wild, awkward, coming forward gutsy warrior named Marcos Rene Maidana. He made Kotelnik, an excellent and underrated technician in Ricky Hatton’s class fight for his life, and for a 'one dimensional' wild slugger, the Argentinean looked pretty good. What a fight that was.

Skilled boxing and Maidana is like Ottke and the Gatti-Ward trilogy, and yet there are some noticeable weapons in his arsenal. In the Kotelnik fight, (which I scored for the champ by 2 points BTW), Maidana showed excellent stamina, wide combination punching but with punches coming from all angles, which gave Kotelnik, a very good defender, problems, also good upper body movement. His overall defense in his elite level debut was surprisingly better than I expected.

Why I think Maidana has a bright future at 140 is that his wild slugger style is combined with speed, rather quick movement and bigtime punching power. I really liked his lead left uppercuts, that’s not your average first punch, and he them like it was a jab. There are obvious defensive holes in his game, and we're yet to see how he'd perform vs. another coming forward, elite fighter like Torres or Urango, but he’s mixing it up quite impressively, and pops out the jab quickly when he decides to use that shot, so don’t count out his boxing skills just yet. At 25, I think there’s room for improvement, and the Kotelnik fight was a good learning experience, a test he almost passed. With a 90% KO ratio, excellent stamina, output, surprising speed and cocky, confident fighting spirit, he might be the most exciting slugger at 140.

I really like the guy and look forward to his return. Maidana-Torres would be the FOTY, maybe one day we’ll see that one.

Yeah, many had him winning. Typical example of punch output/moving forward vs. clean, effective counterpunching, mostly moving backwards. It was very close. A rematch would be excellent, as it was a great fight. But I think Kotelnik has a nightmare style for Maidana, the defense is too tight. Maidana missed a helllllll lot of punches.

I wouldn't mind Chino fighting Nate Campbell BTW. You hear OnePunch?

    he's now Kotelnik-Khan's mandatory.

:rofl at Khan having to face this guy.

    Maybe Maidana should fight Prescott???

Seriously though, Maidana vs Urango, Winner of Bradley-Nate.......would all be GREAT fights.

I personally wouldn't include Torres; judging by his last fight (albeit at Welter) he looks DONE.

The guy definately deserved the win over Kotelnik imo:-:)fire
Don't know how and why he got robbed against his stable mate. Maybe because of some internal politics.

I definitely wouldn't call it a robbery. Very close fight, could've gone either way. I for myself scored it for Kotelnik based on clean effective punching. Maybe politics were involved but Maidana is more marketable. At least after Saturday he is. :yep

I like Maidana alot.. His style and his attitude.. He seems like a cool ass guy. He comes off as a likable fighter..

And whoever said it's too early to put him in with Urango.. WTF u think Urango is someone special or something? He's a ****in bum and Maidana would give him a grade A beating.

Put him in there with Torres and there's a fight.
