Maidana is already better than both. I've been watching Urango since 2005 and he hasn't really improved at all. Torres is a homerun hitter, nothing more. Maidana has excellent ring smarts...which is something Urango and Torres do not have.

I gave the nod to Kotelnik, too! Could have gone either way,but Kotelnik was the defending champ so that he deserved the victory in an extremely close fight.

Time to blow Maidana's trumpet:he is a serious threat to any fighter in his weight division.
I had seen two of his outings before he fought Kotelnik where he had looked very strong and powerful but quite one-dimensional.A strong puncher with limited skills.
However,he showed his true colours in the Kotelnik fight:versatile, fast,at times even trying to outbox the champ.
Maidana is for real! His no prisoner attitude and and his exciting stlye make for very interesting fights.
I would love to watch a rematch with Kotelnik.

Golden Boy to promote Maidana in the US!

Remember this quote from El Chino's before the fight? He looked at the Ortiz as a stepping stone for great things and a possible US career, and said 'thank you' and took the opportunity. :yep
And it paid off BIG. In a recent talk on a boxing site, Oscar De La Hoya said they are going to handle Marcos' US career, so we can expect big things from El Chino, and with a mandatory position vs. the Kotelnik-Khan winner and a possibility of an Ortiz rematch somewhere down the road, his future looks bright.

    :happy

So Khan beat Kotelnik, the only fighter to beat Marcos Maidana in a very close fight. Not only that, but rumors say Khan is now a free agent and looking for a promoter in the US. The best would be GBP because they have great connections on both sides of the Atlantic, and more importantly, Golden Boy promote Maidana in the US. Of course Khan is the "full champion" and Maidana is the "interim champion" therefore Khan's mandatory, so he can force the fight too.

Freddie Roach has already spoken of a possible Khan-Maidana match-up:

"I think Khan and Maidana is a good fight. Khan’s still young, and he has to learn how to fight guys who put on a lot of pressure like Maidana, but he’ll be ready for Maidana sooner than people think.

Khan wants to fight on U.S. television. I think Khan-Maidana could be a big TV fight in L.A. or Las Vegas, but it needs to be built up. Maidana needs to fight one or two times more in the States. Maybe he and Amir could co-headline a card, and then they can get it on."

I think it's a great fight in the making. Both Khan and Maidana deserve and probably need an easier defense, best thing would be an HBO BAD or WCB double-header, then this fight will hopefully happen.

I like Maidana ...He's very exciting but he needs to work on his defence...Hes way too easy to hit...And i gave him the Kotelnik fight by 2 points...

Torres looked bad in his last fight. He got KD'd 3 times by some guy with a terrible record (2 losses and his wins vs bums). They told him he needed a knockout in the last round (10th) and he did it lol. But he didn't look too good.

I think that unlucky loss to Holt hurt him, he was maybe unmotivated against this guy. Who knows how well he trained.

MAIDANA VS. HOLT POSSIBLE FOR NOVEMBER 28!

From Rafael: When super middleweight titlist Karoly Balzsay was stopped in the 11th round by Robert Stieglitz on Aug. 22, it killed a possible Balzsay-Sakio Bika title bout, which was being explored as the co-feature on the Nov. 28 HBO card headlined by super middleweight titlist Lucian Bute's rematch against Librado Andrade in Quebec City. The upset leaves Golden Boy looking for another co-feature. It could be interim junior welterweight titlist Marcos Maidana against ex-titleholder Kendall Holt, Golden Boy matchmaker Eric Gomez told ESPN.com. "I reached out to Top Rank to see if Holt would fight him, and [Top Rank's] Carl Moretti thinks it's doable. It's a good fight and HBO would accept it," Gomez said. Arum said his side likes the fight. "We said we're interested," Arum said. "Now we just need to see a proposal."

    Okay, so how about Alexander-Maidana?

According to BTalk this fight is a possibility for the end of the year, and sounds just as good as Maidana vs. Holt. Well... I think any fight involving two of the division's best is potentially a great fight...

FN has an update on Maidana-Holt:

    This content is protected

From left to right, WBA interim super lightweight champ Marcos Maidana poses with his manager Mario Margossian, WBA VP Gilberto Jesus Mendoza and Oscar De La Hoya last Saturday in Panama. Maidana was a special guest in attendance to the “KO to Drugs Festival” held in Panama City and had the chance to meet with WBA officials and the Golden Boy, who told the Argentinean: “We are working hard to get you back on an HBO date in November. HBO is eager to see you on their screen again.” Both Universum and Golden Boy Promotions are working to put Maidana on November 28 in Quebec, Canada, and there are good chances that his rival would be former champ Kendall Holt. “After I beat Victor Ortiz last June I cannot wait to fight again on HBO with Oscar promoting,” Maidana said.
