Corley is well past it, and even though Maidana had managerial issues so we should be happy to see him fighting so soon, but ... Chop Chop Corley? Come on now! He can be tricky no doubt, but Maidana should not have any problems vs. this version of DeMarcus, so let's just hope Golden Boy keeps it's promise and gets Maidana a biggie later this year.

you have got to be kidding me.

maidana pulls out of a fight with bradley to take on de macus ****ing corley who has recently suffered one of the worst kayo losses i have seen.

hell people said corley was shot when witter beat him for the wbc belt way back when.

i could just imagine the backlash if khan took this fight, hell i remember the backlash when khan was gonna fight casamayor!

the double standards and hate towards english fighters really is ridiculous on this forum. consistency should be a given for posters.

Guys, Corley was doing pretty well against Freddy Hernandez (who's about as good a fighter overall and as hard a hitter as Maidana, IMO) prior to the brutal KO.

Q: Other than Ortiz, how many skilled southpaws has El Chino faced?

    A: ZERO!

In his entire 29 fight career, Maidana has only faced 2 southpaws besides Ortiz - both all the way back in 2006; and neither Miguel Callist nor Jose Montano is on the level of even a current, faded Corley. :deal

They don't seem to encourage left-handedness down in Argentina, where he started out. It must be a Catholic thing. :conf

he was competitive up until the kayo yes, but it was brutal to see and really should have ended his career.

maidana has gone from fighting bradley to a washed up corley who will offer no resistance.

khan would be ridiculed for this fight.

He never got into a war with Judah. It was two guys standing around, posing, and judah clowning around mostly. It was a lackluster performance by both of them.

Everyone always thinks that a brutal KO should be the end of someone's career, but it's often an overreaction, IMO.

Taylor was about to beat Froch when he got caught late. Hindsight is 20-20, and he got his ass kicked by Abraham...but after Froch it still wasn't time yet for anybody to write him off, given how well he did for most of the fight.

It's just older guys that get this kind of flack about brutal knockouts.

Amir Khan and Jorge Linares are each blown out in a single round - WAY more embarrassing than Corley and Taylor who gave good accounts of themselves before falling victim to big punches - and yet they're given a free pass on account of their youth and upside. The inequity just doesn't jive with me.

Taylor's past his best, and Corley is straddling the border of being "shot", but neither the Froch KO nor the Hernandez KO should be seen as red-flag career-enders, IMO.

  7. Maidana may actually kill him in the ring.

maybe so, maybe age is a big factor in people deciding someone is shot, i.e. casamyor. but that is because age is a factor imo.

but even if you put that aside, corley is now at journeyman level, and shuls not be fighting the #4 ranked lww.

maidana should be taking on better level fighters than this.

khan was due a warm up match with casamayor and got slated for it. maidana deserves the same treatment if you ask me.

  9. Go hit a 20 year old in the knee with a hammer. Then hit a 40 year old in the knee with a hammer. See which one recovers faster and get back to me.

    That's quite the oversimplified view.

    I actually didn't have a problem with Khan-Casamayor.

Nor is there anything wrong IMO with Guerrero-Casamayor.

Casamayor is another one that doesn't seem as shot to me as people think.

Maybe I just have a thing with giving established older fighters the benefit of the doubt after an isolated KO loss.

I just wish there was more positive talk in here for him. :yep

Upsetting Maidana would be an enormous feat. That could set him up for a serious paycheck.

dont get me wrong, corley was a good talent and a good boxer. he has shared the ring with some top lww's; judah, floyd, alexander, witter, cotto, bailley etc.

but i think his time is over.

if by some mracle he wins this fight he should get a title shot by proxy. but that wont happen. he will be brutally kayoed.
