As an interesting counterpoint to the Amir Khan poll.

People seem to be taking for granted that Maidana will sign for the fight once pursebids have gone through and the question mark is against Khan. But is that necesarily true?

Afterall, Maidana turned down an offer to fight Bradley citing 'not enough money'. There will be pursebids for Khan/Maidana, but who is going to bid? GBP already has the HBO date booked. Both fighters are with GBP. The likelihood is that GBP enter the only serious bid. And they will know this and can make it a low one as a result and pay Khan extra on top to meet his contract with them.

Maidana's 45% may end up not being significantly more (or even as much) than they offered him in the first place.

If it comes down to that, will Maidana fight or turn down another title shot crying about not getting paid enough?

Frank Warren may put in a serious bid.

Maidana will fight and probably KO Khan.

Maidana clearly wants the fight which is why he requested the purse bid. Unless the bid is just ridiculously low, he'll sign for the fight.

And that's really the question. Who is the potential competition for GBP that will make sure the bid isn't low? And what is Maidana's idea of 'ridiculously low'?

Has it come out anywhere what Maidana was being offered that he didnt like? Probably anything less than 40 is unfair. He should of been happy for anyrthing between 40 and 45%. Considering he isnt supposed to be fighting for the money but for a world title.

Khans reputation is that hes a ducker but this isnt the 1st time Maidana has been close to fighting for a world title just to walk away moaning about money.

Not sure what you're getting at, perhaps you don't follow the news. Maidana himself wrote and requested the purse bid.

U.S broadcasters have offered 2 million for fight, 45% of that is 900k, more than what GBP and Khan offered. Assuming they rebid that sum, then Maidana gets what he wants.

If Frank warren puts a bid I imagine it won't be that far behind this, he managed to put in 500k for Katsisdis, Mitchell and this is bigger than that.

Bradley is more dangerous than Khan. Maidana takes the Khan fight as finishing Khan will elevate him to a better position, both financially and in terms of name recognition for new negotiations with Bradley.

If anyones making this difficult its Khan. He doesnt want this fight in al honestly.

Il bet that they offered Maidana something insulting like 30%. Maidana definatly wants this fight thats why he wrote to the WBA. Kon shouldnt be allowed to rip him off especially when the fight is going to be in America probably and Kon isnt a draw there no matter what he thinks

Dude, Maidana is forcing the issue, so why the hell would he give his interim title up if he'll be the champ if Khan doesn't defend against him?

Frank Warren is not really in the habit of putting in pursebids for fights where he has no promotional interest in either fighter, no tv deal and no location to stage it. Nor is he suddenly likely to start putting on shows in America (which was what the '2 million' offer HBO made to GBP was for).

I doubt anyone is going to put in a 2 million dollar purse bid.

Minimum purse bid is $150,000 which would only give Maidana $67,000.

Do you think Maidana fights if that is the outcome?

Now, we can expect above that, but how much above and who is going to be putting in rival bids is the question?
