I knew Maidana's hunger in the sport was on the wane when he was rocking up to press conferences dressed like this: http://photos.myjoyonline.com/photos/news/201409/9018834131045_7715071775536.jpg As opposed to this: http://beatsboxingmayhem.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/alexander_maidana_broner_perez.jpg
I would have thought he would schedule a fight around this time (mid to late september) but perhaps he is waiting for a bigger payday. I think his stock is a bit inflated and he doesn't want to fight a lower name and potentially lose his stock there for a low payout.
Say what you want about Maidana but he kicked Floyd's a$$ Had him crying to the world " Maidana roughed me up and bullied me It wasn't fair" ROFLMAO some champion huh "
Unfortunately I think CST had the right of it, and personally I don't think Maidana is really all that motivated to fight anymore. Which is a shame, because I think hes a very good fighter. But he has money now, and after 2 bouts with Floyd anything else must be a let down. Pretty sure I saw a pic of him at some event back home, and he had put on a ton of weight. Hopefully I am wrong, I'd love to see him in top form again and I agree with Café that his punching style should carry danger up in weight, in fact I think he might be even more dangerous with his punching style by adding mass since he is a momentum puncher not a velocity puncher. 154 should actually be pretty workable for him as long as he has the gas to carry him 12 at the weight.
The guy made tons of money fighting Mayweather and has been enjoying the good life ever since. To be fair, just before the second FLoyd fight, I think his wife gave birth so I'm sure he's been enoying his life as a family man. The video of him with Broner was hilarious. It looked like Chino was around 180 lbs in those videos/photos. If he does make a ring return, it will be very interesting to see if he can even make 147 anymore. He has a LOT of weight to lose.
I'd love to see him in there against Brook or Garcia. Just so I can see them tested under real pressure. A fight between Marcos and Manny is what I have wanted to see for ages, though. That could be epic!
He's also busy managing fighters. Alan Castaño is an 8-0 middleweight tutored by Maidana, and will be on the Santa Cruz vs. Mares undercard tonight (but not televised)
Funnily enough, Maidana's kid brother Fabian, whom Chino also handles, was KTFO in the amateurs by Castaño. No hard feelings I guess!
Floyd's face in that second pic He's like what the hell, is this the same guy who was clubbing me senseless for six rounds?
I clicked them open in reverse order Maidana deserves a name change for a transition like that Marcos 'El Pimpo' Maidana.
I think he cashed in after Mayweather 2. I vividly remember his last words after the interviewer was asking him about the bite on the glove. He said, "I just want to go home." He's content now, I believe.
