    :?

Immediately after the close loss to Brewer in the Contender season 2 finale (and remember that Stevie is a natural super feather/lightweight and Brewer is a career middleweight, let that sink in) he took Bernard's nephew D-Hop to school and should have taken his cherry but got robbed by judges Forbes' camp had protested but Golden Boy forced on them. He then upset former wunderkind Panchito Bojado, and went on to ironically make a fortune courtesy of GBP (perhaps their way of apologizing for the Hopkins decision) when ODLH used him as preparatory tune-up for a Mayweather rematch that never happened. Now, since then he is 2-6 but at least two of the losses are generally considered horrible decisions and the other four came to major prospect/contenders (Berto, Jo Jo Dan, Mayfield & Vargas) of whom three were unbeaten and he was respectably competitive with all of them.

For someone whose super featherweight championship heyday was over a decade ago he is doing remarkably well into his late thirties holding it down all the way up at welter. His career never 'fell apart'. He is essentially a gatekeeper now, but one that consistently gets matched tough while acquitting himself well - and his income from boxing from 2008-present likely dwarfs what he made in more than double that span from 1996-2007.

Good points. 'Career fell apart' was a bit of an exaggeration, but his record since the Contender is pretty ugly. If he's making good money then I'm happy. Always was a fan of Forbes.

I am utterly convinced Steve Forbes is one of the best sparring partners in the business, he's gonna give anyone work, just look at the camps he's been in (Floyd AND Pacquiao).

~Three quarters of a million when Oscar cherry picked him for essentially a public friendly spar (which Stevie at least took seriously and in which, lest we forget, he did manage to bust Oscar's face up a bit...) and probably substantially less in every outing since but each has probably still been more than or at least as much as what he made in the Contender finale. :good

:nod Consummate pro, and hard worker any time he steps in the ring whether it counts toward his record or not.

Also a very decent guy, quite involved with fans on social media. (and is a huge fan and student of the sport himself)

Good boxer, but I voted no because I don't know much Forbes really has left in the tank. I don't think bringing in a guy in on the wrong side of 30 does much for preparation against a guy in his early 20s. I just think Broner is consistently stronger than Forbes at this stage of their careers.

But then again, Broner takes breaks in the middle of rounds like he's in his 30s some times, so.... :think

Here, you can see Perez vs. Forbes and judge for yourself (both the fairness of the verdict, and what Forbes has left...keeping in perspective that Perez only has one loss - to Cano by technical decision; and while Cano had begun to swing momentum his way as of the cut stoppage they fought on mostly even terms and were tied 38 apiece on my card through four - and that he just deflowered Spadafora...)

You could slap a couple of buttons on there and upgrade yourself to gym sock ******. :conf

...although somehow, knowing this place, that perfectly innocent bit of whimsy could be misconstrued and you would then be in the uncomfortable position of having sparked off a racial firestorm... putting me in the uncomfortable position of having to plead with other mods to remove the ban stick from your tooter...:err

Interesting. Forbes will definitely put in quality work and is still shifty.

I don't like how he tends to loop his punches though. Not very Broner-like.

Took Stan Martyniouk out to the Top Rank Gym before Stan turned pro. FloyD Sr. was training Forbes... Sr. Talked a whole bunch of **** as to what Forbes was gonna do to Stan. They asked for 6 rounds to which we were more than happy to accept. Long story short... Stan boxed Forbes ears off... so much so that Sr. stopped the sparring after the 4th round!

Well, he can be proud of that in the same way that Paul Spadafora can be proud of bothering Floyd Jr. in sparring - but AFAIK Forbes never got his ass whooped by a Kadaphi Proctor, and he was a world champ once upon a time, so he probably isn't losing sleep over having once had a worse day than Martyniouk in the gym.

Well that is what he found brought him success with Johan, forcing him into those hooking exchanges up close. Generally he doesn't loop 'em like that. Except for lacking KO power, Forbes is a versatile fighter.

I don't like it. Broner's style isn't the problem. He isn't slick. He wants to appear to have a certain style, but in reality he's an offensive athletic fighter who stands weird and that's about it. He is not hard to hit, the problem is that to hit him you have to get close enough to risk one of his accurate, hard combos coming back at you.

The difference in speed and athleticism between Broner and Forbes is going to be apparent to Maidana from round one. Would be better to have Maidana spar a younger, stronger, faster, athletic guy.
