No way in hell. 78-73 Browne, 7 rounds to 1 for Williams (the sixth) and the justified deduction. Browne didn't look great, and got frustrated by the D of Williams and fought pretty dirty - so I can understand the desire to want to give the plucky underdog the benefit of the doubt...but Lamont simply didn't work enough offensively in most of the rounds. Browne's connect rate was pitiful, but connected over three quarters as many blows as Williams and his were harder and more telling. Easy to score. Lamont gave a better account of himself (exceeding his expectations, whereas Marcus didn't live up to his) and came off as easier to root for, but still very clearly lost.
Had a bit closer than IB, giving Williams two rounds. I think you could give him maybe three at most. But generally, Browne landed the harder shots in most of the rounds, and was landing about the same amount per stanza, due to superior work-rate. Not an easy win for the Olympian at all, but still one that he deserved, imo.
Browne has been turning in underwhelming performances for years, his entire time in the pros, see? Why he continues to get hyped is beyond me. :-( KO1 Campillo might have been an impressive result once upon a time, but not when Browne managed it (coming off Beterbiev just having brutalized El Chico Guapo)
Watch this fight of his from the amateurs against an Albanian Swede called Naim Terbunja who fought in the Olympics (losing to Matt Korobov). Browne gets all stroppy at the end and the ref looks like he wants to DQ at one point (think he pushes the ref at one point or at least puts his hands on him). Terbunja hurts him numerous times as well IIRC. Terbunja is now 7-1 as a pro (0 KOs) lol [YT]FXb-ApurrAU[/YT] [YT]N9Ifw2v73Hg[/YT]
