You could steal a nickel or a million dollars makes no difference how much you steal you are still a thief. Both are cheaters to an equal extent.
Mares isn't the least bit to blame imo. If the ref tells him it's legal what can he do? Same with the judges, if the ref rules a kd what can they do? The fault is completely with the ref on this.
He wasn't purposefully low blowing at all, he was concentrating on the body and some shots went low, that's the ref's job to spot, judge and penalise the infringement.
I've only watched clips here and there, so I can't give a proper assessment. Either he's horribly inaccurate with his body shots, or he's got a "I don't give a ****" attitude knowing full well that his shots are going too low, but making no concious effort to stop them. This is mainly going off his fight with Vic, but from what I hear from everyone, the Agbeko fight is a 100 times worse. Yes, it's the referee's job to stop infringements, but when it's a bent referee who won't stop them no matter what, that excuse for Mares is a weak one. Yes, I know, Mares wasn't aware of the corrupt referee before him, but just because your cheating is being overlooked, it doesn't give you the right to continue doing it. When Drogba would hurl himself to the ground knowing the referee wouldn't punish him, it didn't make his actions any more tolerable. The referee failing to stop him, doesn't mean he's not cheating. However, I do need to view the fight before condemning Mares properly.
Great boxer this Mares, but his Golota antics when pushed makes him a *** in my book. His testicular fascination comes to mind too during the Darchi bout... :-bart
