He was knocked down by a JBW and struggled mightily before winning a very close decision with the help of a few well placed low blows.

How can he expect to deal with the bigger boys at 122?

Mares also outclassed a bigger, better, and stronger Agbeko...without any help from lowblows (rematch)...Don't leave that one out.

Mares is good, but Idon't think he is going to be great if he moves up.

IMO Mares should have stayed at 118lbs a bit longer...try to get a fight with Moreno to unify the titles, and if he won that, he could of fought that one japanese dude, and try to become Undisputed champ.

He is a good fighter but I do think Moreno beats him.

He's not beating the top 122 guys. Rigo and Donaire **** him. Maybe he can grab the IBF strap, but I don't see him doing very well at 122 at all.

Hell...even chomo Morel will make him work this weekend.

rigo i think is far too defensive and quick for mares...but donaire ??? the dude looked like absolute **** last time and if that were mares in there, the pressure would've eventually caught up to donaire and it would've been a close fight.....

He's a young man , still learning and improving fairly quickly (because he needs too :D) his rematch with Agbeko suggested he is starting to mature into a solid contender / champion at world level , but among his current company he will be beaten , thats a given

Still , i think he'll provide some really good fights along the way , he's game and has ability

Going back 18 months i wouldn't of given Mares 6 rounds with Donaire

Now i share your sentiment on how it plays out with them 2

both are learning....but you can tell that mentally, abner is the strongest....if donaire can't ko you, he knows nothing of what to do next...mares proved by beating agbeko that he has to be taken serious at 122 regardless......just a year ago agbeko was the KING, now that mares easily beat him in the rematch, mares is all of a sudden not even worthy...because he struggled with vic :lol::lol:

    gotta love ESB

Out-landing your opponent in every round except the 6th, knocking him down in the 9th, and connecting on 60% of your power shots is what it means to look like ****? Sure Vazquez is a tough fight but your bias is stretching it quite wide. Were you the judge that scored the fight 115-112 Vazquez Jr?

    I hear ya Bro

Mares Moreno will answer a lot of the questions , to get to Moreno he'll need to active , crafty and cute , all of the above i believe to be in his locker , interesting next 12 months for this kid :good

i meant that he was lost...he had no game plan at all, only to knock him out...mares is a tough pressure fighter who throws every punch in the book...if he can't ko him, how else is he gonna beat a guy like that ???

Donaire needs to add muscle he looked like a S/flyweight in his last fight.Sure the kid is tall for the div but he is thin.He just didn't look like a 122 in that fight. He managed to wobble Vasquez with his huyrt left hand .

Things like that happen when you overlook an opponent's skill level, which is what I count that up on. Donaire looked like he thought he could just overrun Vazquez Jr, but he's solid so it couldn't just happen like that.
