I think the real problem here might not be nefarious motives on either side, but instead be old man Arum's confusion about technology. We already know from the most recent Pac-Floyd negotiations that he has trouble using the telephone and figuring which buttons to press to call Golden Boy and Haymon. I don't think it's much of a stretch at all to conclude he has similar issues when it comes to using more sophisticated media like e-mail and fax.

I guess you are talking to me? GBP turned down $1 mill by Schaefer's own admission. That is a very good purse offer for Mares. Tell me the terms of both deals and what Donaire walks away with under each. We simply don't know that yet. The revenues for this fight will come off of Donaire's name much more than Mares'.

HBO confirmed the negotiations that 'never took place'. Try again. Remember Floyd calling Pac directly? So, yeah, it is a bit confusing on who to negotiate with. Would be promoter Curtis Jackson was in the picture then too.

I'm not even interested in seeing any Mares fights after what he did in the first Agbeko match.

I said most recent. You know, when Bob just couldn't figure out how to use the phone to get in touch with Floyd after a hard day helping build a stadium and tending to Manny's life-threatening cut.

I do wonder if one of the generous investors Arum was speaking with about making Floyd-Manny was from Nigeria. Old people are the most likely to be victimized by e-mail scams.

Yes he should. If Donaire sees the offer and doesn't run knocking on Bob Arum's door like a madman, that counts as a duck. He's being offered his career payday.

Good point. I did mention officials in a previous post. A solid ref will be needed to keep Mares from winning by foul. KO by low blow that isn't called?

$1 mill for Mares? How do you duck it? Oh, make a counter offer for a month that the opponent said he is taking off. Buy a clue.

Exactly why we would want this fight to take place in Vegas not in Los Angeles or California for that matter. Mares gets allot of favoritism here in Ca

What gets me though is why so many Mexican fight fans support him the way they do, we have a better fighter in that division, Leo Santa Cruz which I think makes for a much better fight with Nonito

Both fighters aren't worth the 1 million, let alone the 3 million. Neither fighter is a household name, Donaire has had several showings on the championship network, albeit they were mediocre crowd sellers (sans Alvarado Rios). Mares and Golden Boy seem content with selling even less tickets while they run away with huge paychecks via license fee from Stephen Espinoza of Showtime.

This part could get interesting actually. You know Arum shopped this matchup when he made Mares the $1 Mill offer and will have quotes. For Schaefer to say no network has been picked is beyond ludicrous. If Espinoza turns around and offers GBP more than TR it opens him up to scrutiny in the company and even possibly legal action for restraint of trade and price fixing.

It's well known that Espinoza has banned Top Rank from Showtime. If you look at Showtime and all of their fights they've all virtually been Golden Boy fights. I find it funny that a lot of posters here have this loving relationship with Golden Boy, yet Golden Boy has almost a strangle hold on the industry. Where is the collaboration?

since renegotiating, donaire has publicly stated that he gets at least .8mil per fight from TR, last fight against arce, it was reported that he got paid 1.1mil.

hbo triples showtimes budget in boxing and pays more for a fight.
