danrafaelespn Dan Rafael According to a letter IBF sent to the promoters & Nevada commission, the organization ordered a Mares-Agbeko rematch today. Good for them from Chubby Dan's Twitter Hopefully Jpab can stop:|:|now:yep
Brilliant, it was the only solution to this whole mess. Hopefully, Mares will get a clear, foul free victory this time. I see no reason why he can't
danrafaelespn Dan Rafael IBF prez Daryl Peoples in letter ordering Mares-Agbeko 2: "It has been determined by the IBF that inappropriate conduct by the referee..." danrafaelespn Dan Rafael More from Peoples: "affected the outcome of the fight.
As long as it's with 90 days :happy Let's get a conclusive winner (hopefully) and move on to Nonito and finally see a no.1 in the division....who will then move up and chase more straps :fire
I should make it clear, I don't expect it to be a foul free fight from Mares; that left hook to the body is a key punch for him and he can throw it beautifully as he did vs Perez. However, it comes from so low that it's bound to land low on a number of occasions and Agbeko holding his head down wasn't really the reason for it. But I have to disagree LP with him improving each time. I thought he was excellent vs perez, poor vs Vic and so so vs Agbeko to be honest but he's showing more facets to his style and a bit more versatility so I'm excited about his progress. I really do think he can perform a lot better in a rematch and get a comfortable enough win over 12 rounds when they meet again. Then hopefully, Mares-Donaire to decide no.1 if he gets past Agbeko. Unfortunately, I'd fear for him badly in that one :-( Still, WAR Mares!! (haven't gave up on him yet :yep)
Agbeko won relatively comfortably bogus KD calls and low blows aside, I can only imagine that the same thing will occur, hopefully minus the aforementioned **** ups from a certain referee.
Jagbeko looked rusty early on and took time to get into his groove. He'll start a lot better next time IMO, and his timing will be much more tuned in.
maybe learning is a better word than improving, he's still young and the experience will only do him good:thumbsup
I still would've had it 6-6 in rounds. But a quicker, sharper start from King Kong next time will see him win fairly comfortably IMO. Mares is very good but I saw more from Agbeko and how he can clearly win than from Mares. Sorry LP, I am wrong a lot, take solace in that ;-)
:yep no worries, ill admit id never heard of Agbeko before his Showtime Tournement but hes kinda growing on me, heard alot about his right hand but from watching the fight on sat i noticed his jab seems under-rated, hadnt read much about it in the build up thread but seemed to land it at ease at times. After Mares deals with him again ill sit in his corner:hey:hey
Personally, I had it pretty close with all the other nonsense forgotten and can't think either man has a big psychological advantage over the other going into the rematch. Plus that 1st KD happens quite often and is considered legitimate when a punch lands simultaneously to a slip so I don't think it shouldn't have been counted even tho the punch didn't cause the fall. For that reason, I had Mares slightly up without counting the ridiculous second knockdown
Very much agree :good. In a similar situation to Tavoris Cloud when he fought Woods and Johnson in my opinion. Fights where I didn't think he looked particularly great but got the job done and has benefited greatly from having them. Looking forward to following Mares' career, I like his style in and out of the ring
I had it 7-5/8-4 having watched it since. I thought the commentators were a bit off base at times. They kept saying that KK's left hook wasn't working, but I though it offset Mares' rhythm pretty well and landed more often than Mares landed right hands over it. Mares started quick but Agbeko adjusted extremely well IMO, and out-moved/out-hustled him clearly. Close fight though all the same, but I can't really see the case for anything more than 6-6 for Mares, just how I see it though. Hope all is rectified if this does in fact come off.
