Mares did his job and it did it well. Good on him.

Moreno has some really nice skills and can look wonderful against certain guys, but he had absolutely no way of keeping Abner off him. Couldn't keep him at distance at all. That's where the oh-so popular Whitaker comparison falls right off the cliff.

Still enjoy watching him fight though. Agree that he showed heart.

One thing is for sure, Rigo hits harder than Moreno.
I'd love to see this fight.

Getting repeatedly hit below the belt will take your steam away as the bout goes on. Mares came in with his head all night also. He is dirty point blank.

He consistently fouled and clearly had the Ref and judges on board.

If Mares had been punished appropriately and had the Ref "did his job" it would've had a big effect on the fight.

Absorbing lots of punches below the belt affected Moreno yet it was still Mares who had to take a round off on the ropes .................... a round which he won apparently :-(

Moreno had Mares falling back and covering up with his right hooks to the body. I think he needed to use his right hook more in the fight because that hand has the most power for him. If he used that to the body and to to the head when Mares came lunging in I think the fight would have ended with a KO for Moreno.

I do know that mares will never beat power punchers like Rigo or Donaire.

Wasn't that impressed with Mares style. It's the same borderline dirty tactics. As Paulie said, how else are you supposed to protect yourself from a guy rushing at you with his head? I've seen too many low blows from Mares.

Would love to see Mares take on Santa Cruz. That's one tough dude who fights clean and with conviction.

I had it a draw at the end and that's including the bs point deduction that shouldn't have been called. Not bad for Moreno's first fight at SBW. Mares was relentless but sloppy but his aggression flustered Moreno much of the time so it worked well for him. Either way I'd like to see a rematch, it was close at it gets and that one judge with the 120-106 needs to be shot.

:lol::patsch A punching bag doesn't hit back smart ass.

Donaire would not have an easy night if WVJr lured him to a firefight, Mares who is on another level will lure him into the fight of his life :deal

Moreno fought excellent last night and would of been a nightmare for anyone including Nonito. Mares last 5 rounds? Are you ****ing kidding me? :lol:Nonito would have every advantage over Mares, possibly drop him multiple times, but don't think Mares is another Montiel he's much better. Nonito by UD or SD, but Mares would push him like no one has before. Mares isn't a typical pressure fighter look again. Most of his punches land and he knows how to time them perfectly something he learned from Beristein. He doesn't do that little jog-skip Margarito, Rios, most Mexican brawlers use Mares was pouncing on Moreno Duran style. Mares is in the same league Nonito and Rigo are he proved it against Moreno.

Mares doesn't do **** to Donaire. Mares is too open to power shots to the body and head. He isn't anywhere close to a big puncher either.

He's a shorter pressure fighter what did you want him to come in with his ass? Moreno got whipped period.

Mares has landed more low blows in a single fight (Agbeko I or Moreno) on two seperate occasions than Golota landed his entire career. Hell you could pick out a 2 or 3 round span where he landed more than Golota in his entire career.

i couldnt disgree more with u.

1st of all,..every fight has its own strategy,..to beat moreno ,mares had to use the pressure style,..and thats not how he will fight nonito,.well maybe in the late rounds but not the game plan.
any1 that knows alot about boxing knows this.

secondly,..moreno is way,way slicker, smoother boxer then nonito is,.,.
nonito was outboxed for sevral rounds by mathebula for god sakes.fact.

i dont know if mares wins against nonito,..
what i do know is that nonito has never faced any1 good.
when he steps up in competition ,.then we will see the real nonito.

also,it sucks that moreno and mares had 2 fight,..because now nonito can
really duck moreno 4ever,..who i think would beat nonito.
and he will move up to 126 after the arce fight,..and fight all the bums there ,avoid the best there, move up in wieght and repeat.
