You know its coming soon, on Showtime. As long as Ponce gets by Velez. Who wins???? For me its a 50/50 fight. Ponce is definitely thw bigger puncher, & improved his technique. Mares is the more skilled, versatile fighter. DPDL has not displayed the freakish power @126 like at 122, but IMO beat Broner, Jhonny Gonzalez, & was competitive wit Shortboa. Mares has proven to be dominant @118/122. I think Mares wins this, smothers Ponce effectively to a UD.

De Leon or Velez would Prob be the factor that led to Mares move.
(Golden Boy prob already has the contracts written for those fights in Sept)

Hmmm good match up. Although PDL has gotten much MUCH better Mares just has too many tools to use. I see him grinding out a close win.

I thinks the move to 126 is a bad one by Mares. I think he has a tough time beating any of the top featherweights.

Ponce De Leon will have to face the WBC Eliminator winner between Viorel Simion and Celestino Caballero.

Interesting match if it comes off.. Im pretty confident Daniel will stop Velez in the mid rounds, but mares is on a different level.. his youth, speed, and pressure will be a tough task, BUT, he's not that hard to hit and the combo of moving up and Daniel's power is the x-factor here... would love to see this..

Mares too hungry too good. I have him on the same level as Nonito or Rigo just a different style. PDL tho has reinvented himself he gave Broner and Gamboa hell I'm sure he'd do the same with Mares. Looking forward to PDL-Juanma II tho. I think it's that loss that's been driving PDL and motivating him. In a way its good he lost it only made him better. Mares outboxes and outworks him tho, but not without eating some leather. PDL takes this one, Mares can't put any pressure on him.
Pdl has improved and has fought and been competitive against huge guys like broner and Gamboa , he won't be impress by mares

Now that Ponce vs Velez is off,

I expect GB to do Mares vs PDL soon...

There was a article that came out a week earlier that said tha wbc was going to set up Mares against the winner. Would be a good scrap, ShoWtime, in LA
