I'm still on the fence on this one.

Mares clearly the favorite and much more skilled.

But he's moving up once again and I'm not sure if his power can still make a statement against a guy like De Leon. He's crude sure, but he's a bad-ass and he's not afraid to go down and dirty.

 

Mares at 118-122 coudnt blow any opponents, tough fights at BW against old Vic,johny Perez,Agbeko . At 122 another tough fight against Moreno . No, he's no beating PDL at 126.
I like Mares, he takes not easy fights but his move to 126 is wrong.

 

I'm having a hard time deciding with Mares going up in weight. He likes to get in there and bully, and news not big or strong enough to bully Ponce. But I still can't see Mares losing, I expect something a little different from him, more movement, boxing, not nearly as aggressive. I think it's gonna be awesome with Mares pulling a close decision...

 

Do they have a punchstat for low blows?

Becoming more and more a fan of Mares...the man will fight anybody.
Mares by easier decision than expected. Excellent fighter.

 

Stylistically, a puncher should be a pressure fighters/swarmers nightmare, BUT Mares is an elite one and tho isnt the strongest or fastest I see no one today that cuts the ring off like Mares. PDL isn't one dimensional anymore and given elites like Gamboa and Broner their toughest fights, but Mares in his prime should survive some scary moments before outworking the awkward style of PDL. Props to both fighters for fighting the best out there. Mares SD12 PDL
