He was fighting a much smaller guy and he walked in there at like 167. He caused damage but nothing to the effect that resembled Cotto and it was mostly to the body. He did catch Miguel with an uppercut in the second that had him bleeding out of his nose(This also played a big role in the gassing) All Im saying is that its possible, acknowledging of course other factors played a role. The same reason I believe the rematch wont give us a definitive answer.

Actually all he needs to do is turn him and hit him with lateral movement instead of backing up in a straight line. This will allow him to stay in the kill zone while sitting on his punches and avoiding the much MUCH slower counter attack.

:good I absolutely agree it's possible given the evidence found prior to the Mosley fight, but some people on here are so closed minded its untrue, so I try to reason and put out some other points to consider.

Cotto bled a lot but didn't bruise or swell as much as he did against Pacquiao. This is because he was caught with punches to the ears, nose, mouth. Uppercuts and some sickening straight rights, as well as constant cuffing and flurries.

I know I'll never convince people that don't want to be convinced, nor do I have the proof or fact to do so anyway, but I truly believe Margarito did not have illegal inserts in his hand-wraps against Cotto, or any other fighter prior to the Mosley bout. Anyone that wants to question me on that may feel free to do so.

As others have said I don't think Cotto is necessarily blaming the whole thing on Margarito cheating. He may think so, but he knows he gassed and is probably going to turn Margarito laterally instead of retreating to the ropes. Against Mayorga he showed improvement in this regard, and I bet it will be a greater focus for this particular match-up.

I don't think that Margaret punches any harder than Mayorga!!!

His days are numbered.....cheating ******* is going down by lateral movement, some strategic clinching and turning, backing the ******* up,
stiff jabs in his mug and some vicious body shots!!!

Bottom line is Cotto can adjust and learned from the first fight whereas
Margaret cannot adjust much and is coming in thinking he will repeat the
    first fight.....
Yes, that is how stupid this ******* is...

The idea that Margarito cheated in the first fight can not be ruled out. I'm saying that as a fan of Tony. But the idea that Cotto's face after the fight proves Margo cheated is pure bull****. To me, Cotto's face looks a lot like Taylor's at the end of the Chavez fight, with the addition of a recent cut...I think Cotto beats Tony this time because of sharper punches, better movement, and Tony's reduced punch resistance. Not because of anything that was or wasn't present in the first fight

I agree & I think this is the key for him. I think he was able to do it well in the first part of the fight, if I recall correctly. Then he started backing up straight.

Gonna have to re-watch it again sometime this week. One thing I wanna look for is if he was able to get to Margarito's right eye (or right side in general) with ease.

Mayorga has far more one punch power than Margarito. But Mayorga doesn't and never had Margarito's punch output.

We'll never truly know if Toney had illegal wraps with Cotto, you could assume either way. I actually wonder just how much of an effect those things have? I think it was Toney's ability to take a punch more than anything else that won his fight with Cotto, and hand wraps or not, he's not exactly featherfisted.

I remember how most people thought Cintron would outbox Toney in their rematch, but once Kermit got in their and seen it was the same dog as last time, he broke easier. I think the same will apply with Cotto. If this fight follows the same pattern where Cotto lands everything on Toney, and Toney keeps walking him down and landing mean shots, Cotto will break. I really didn't like how Cotto looked with Mayorga or Foreman. The old Cotto would've finished those guys off quickly. He wants out of this sport and Toney, who took two nasty beatings since their last fight, was the fight that brought him the most money.

I've said the same many times. I think it will be the difference in this fight too. The single reason I don't see Tony giving a repeat performance.

That is a major question for this fight, how much did Toney lose against Pac.
