Margarito cleared of wrong doing in July 2008 victory over Cotto

But we still need to find out if Cotto will ever be the same.....

 

This is my biggest concern and why i am looking forward to the Jennings fight. Hopefully, and by what he has said in interviews and stuff, nothing has changed and he is the same Miguel Cotto.

If he is the same, then Cotto-Margo II is payback.

 

What is there to sweep under a rug? They checked at the time of the fight, Cotto's trainer was there, and nobody saw anything. The wraps are long gone, as is any evidence that the gloves might have been loaded. Of course this is what they were going to say. At this point, they probably don't even remember how carefully they checked his wraps.

It would be sweeping it under the rug if they found something and then said they didn't see anything. I highly doubt that's the case. Unless Margo's trainer comes out and says they also did this in the Cotto fight, nothing's going to change here. Doesn't change the fact that the fight could rightfully be viewed as tainted though. Still, I have more confidence in the Nevada commission's ability to catch this kind of thing than the California commission's.

Hopefully this leads to a rule change where the Commission keeps and checks the wraps after the fight.

Unlike you I would rather have the results be that Margarito didn't cheat. I just think Cotto came in with the wrong strategy and should have went for the body. You are praying that Margarito cheated so that you can say Cotto never lost.

Styles make fights jackass. Did Mosley fight the same way as Cotto? NO! Did Mosley go to the body and hold on the inside? YES! Those things messed up Margaritos rhythm and he was never able to get started and connect and get in the inside like usual. You should watch more boxing before you post.

 

If Marg gets caught once, that is enough to taint and throw doubt on his entire career. If this is the case, his record should be expunged and Cotto should remain undefeated. We should have no tolerance or give the benefit of doubt, to athletes who are proven cheaters. Unless the penalties for cheating are harsh, cheating will continue and the credibility of boxing will continue to sink.

You're being sarcastic, right? There isn't a single sport (outside of maybe Sumo) that punishes an entire career for one incedent where there's no proof of cheating elsewhere. Bans yes, but they don't strike anything from the record books.

The ONLY reason he was cleared is they can't prove anything for the Cotto fight.
