Inspired by another post, this may have been done before, but I'd like to see everyone's opinion.

IMO it's 50/50 at the most, but I'd give the advantage to Margarito. An iron-chinned, huge, hard-punching fighter who always comes forward is EXACTLY the kind of guy to tear Cotto to pieces.

This matchup has the potential to be Frazier-Foreman at welterweight. Not saying it would be such a beatdown, but there is a definite stylistic similarity.

    Frazier-Foreman.

    Seriously, compare the two matchups.

Cotto's chin is also much worse than Frazier's, even though Margarito is not physically as strong in relation to Foreman.

You need to do better then that, in my opinion.

    I don't seen any similarities.

But, maybe I'm wrong or blind.

I think it would be a very good fight with Cotto prolly coming up with the UD. I am VERY surprised that so many people believe he would win by knockout though. I doubt he could knockout Margo. Yeah he is a great puncher, but Margo has a steel chin and always keeps coming forward.
    Would love to see it.

Cotto - Short in height, short-armed, come-foward pressure fighter. Not a hard puncher, a volume puncher. Known shaky chin in addition to average defence, mostly head movement. Relies on relentless pressure over the course of a fight to take his opponent out late/sweep the late rounds. Likes to do work on the inside.

Margarito - Huge welterweight. Throws wild but powerful punches. Iron chin. Also always comes forward. Plodding, but very physically strong in addition to his size, likes to do work at the mid-range end of his looping punches. Excellent uppercuts. Throws alot of punches, especially since almost all are power shots. Tends to gas out somewhat in the later rounds, but excellent stamina for a guy who is constantly winging wild power shots.

The only real major difference I can think of is that Cotto likes to go low when he gets hurt. He's MUCH smaller in relation to Margarito than Frazier was to Foreman, too.

    It's not an insult, man.

I mentioned it because I cannot think of ONE instance where Frazier went low. Ever. Not even after five knockdowns by Big George Foreman did he go low.

Cotto, on the other hand, has gone low several times in recent years. I don't think he's a "dirty fighter", but the fact is that he has punched low and Frazier hasn't.

cotto is clearly the more talented of the two, but styles make fights. imo margarito is the type of fighter that could give cotto trouble. big strong ww volume puncher who will not take a step back. this would be an all out war. though i would favor cotto slightly, this would be no walk in the park for either fighter.

Margarito hits as hard as Cotto and throws twice more punches. He has a better chin and is stronger. He has a very developed killer instinct. Cotto have a little bit better stamina and his also a bit faster than Margarito. He is also technically better than the Mexican and they are both VERY strong mentally.

That's exactly what I'm thinking, but this poll shows that alot of people don't realize that styles make fights.

I wish I could step into a time machine...I'd make a killing by betting the house on Foreman in 1973 :D , taking all the sheep's money!

What fights? Just out of curiousity. I can't ever remember one of Frazier's opponents falling to the canvas after a shot to the sack.
